A reminder that placement learning is classed as off-the-job learning, alongside teaching and any NEW learning that is completed back in clinical practice (that is outside of your normal job role and scope).
All placements are new learning, this means you do not need protected time for off-the-job during your placement blocks, but you may be able to negotiate some protected time for assessment preparation (including revision, research, and writing assignments). This should be discussed and agreed with your practice educator on an individual basis.
Training plan and off-the-job learning (OTJL) on placements.
Apprentices have access to their training plan via Maytas for each course which suggests activities that could be completed as part of OTJL for each module. This includes suggested activities that can be completed during placement. This can help apprentice and educator plan how best to use placement blocks based on individual learning needs and the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSB) framework.
