Dear Future Cadet,

Congratulations on taking the first step toward an exciting and rewarding career in law enforcement. The Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Academy offers an intensive, hands-on training experience designed to equip you with the foundational skills and knowledge required to serve as a certified law enforcement officer in North Carolina.

Please review the checklist below carefully. All required documents must be submitted to the Law Enforcement Training Center no later than June 19, 2026. Early submission is strongly encouraged — timely receipt allows our staff to review your packet for completeness and helps ensure your seat in the Academy is secured without delay.

Applicants are welcome to drop off completed documents at the Law Enforcement Training Center at any time during business hours. To respect the time of our staff, we kindly ask that you consolidate your submissions and bring multiple completed items at once rather than delivering documents individually.

REQUIRED APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

Online PCC Application and Residency Determination Request — pittcc.edu/admissions/apply-now
Copy of Birth Certificate
Copy of valid North Carolina Driver’s License
Certified North Carolina Driving Record — Must be obtained through the NC DMV ($18.00 fee). Visit ncdot.gov/dmv to request your record.
Copy of High School Diploma or Transcript — For Academy eligibility purposes, a high school transcript is acceptable regardless of any additional transcript requirements set by PCC Admissions. If a transcript is not available, a copy of your diploma will be accepted.
Request for Accommodation (Form F-31) — Complete Sections I–VII in their entirety. Enter “N/A” for any question that does not apply; do not leave any field blank.
PCC Criminal Charge Worksheet
Certified Criminal History Record — Required for all locations where you have resided since reaching adulthood. Records must cover both local and state jurisdictions and are obtained through your local Clerk of Court’s office. Applicants who are hired or employed by an agency are exempt from this requirement — their agency will complete a Form F-25 to satisfy this obligation on their behalf. For applicants who have resided in multiple jurisdictions, additional guidance and resources can be found here.
DD-214 (if applicable) — Required for all applicants with prior military service.
Medical Forms — All forms must be completed in their entirety and signed by a qualified medical professional. Original forms must be returned to our office; the medical provider may retain a copy.

- F-2 — Medical Examination Report
- F-2A — Tuberculosis Questionnaire (if needed)
- F-2B — Medical Examination Report Addendum (if needed)
Reading Assessment — After submitting your online PCC application, you must schedule your reading assessment. Assessments are by appointment only — call (252) 493-7561 to schedule. Please bring a valid photo ID to your appointment. Your score will be submitted directly to our staff for your student file. Visit our website or scan the QR code provided for additional instructions and placement testing resources.
Sponsorship Letter — Must be completed and signed by your sponsoring agency. The form is provided in your application packet. Applicants who have been hired by an agency must also submit a completed Form F-25.
Personal History Statement (Form F-3) — A completed and notarized Form F-3 is required. Applicants must submit the PCC BLET Academy F-3 — agency copies will not be accepted. This form is not included in your application packet and must be downloaded from our website — please visit the link or scan the QR code provided. A completion guide is also available on our website. This form must be typed — handwritten submissions will not be accepted. Notary services are available free of charge — please bring a valid photo ID.

ACADEMY COST

Registration Fee: $74 — Covers insurance, parking decal, and technology fees. (Subject to change per state guidelines.)

Uniforms: $300–$600 — Uniform costs vary depending on selections. Once your completed application packet has been received, you will be provided a link to our online uniform store to place your order. Expected delivery is 5–7 business days. All orders must be placed no later than June 19, 2026, to ensure delivery before the start of the Academy.

Books: $230 — All cadets are required to purchase the 2026 Digital BLET Student Set, which includes the student manual and workbook. They can be picked up in person from the PCC Bookstore, Craig F. Goess Student Center (CFG160), 169 Bulldog Run, Winterville, NC 28590 — pittcc.edu/campus-life/bookstore, or purchased online from the NC Justice Academy Bookstore at ncjabookstore.ncdoj.gov (Item #101702). This purchase is non-refundable and, once activated, non-transferable. Please ensure your seat in the Academy is confirmed before purchasing or activating your materials.

SAFE Fee (Student Activity Facilitation Expenditure Fee) — $300 for sponsored students. Applicants who have been hired by an agency will be charged a reduced fee of $75, provided the agency supplies ammunition. This fee covers Academy supplies, equipment maintenance, fuel, and other operational expenditures necessary to support your training experience.

HOURS

All schedules are subject to change due to instructor and facility availability. Cadets are provided with a live, up-to-date calendar and will be notified of any schedule changes at the earliest opportunity.

Day Academy: Monday–Thursday, 5:00 AM–5:00 PM | Friday, 7:30 AM–5:00 PM

Night Academy: Monday–Friday, 6:00 PM–11:00 PM, with occasional Saturdays

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is mandatory for ALL class sessions.

CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion of the PCC BLET Academy, graduates are eligible to apply for state certification through the NC Department of Justice. Eligibility for certification must be pursued within one year of graduation.

SALARY

Starting salaries for law enforcement officers in this area typically begin at $48,000 and may vary by agency.

REGISTRATION DAY — SUMMER 2026 BLET ACADEMY

Mandatory registration for the Summer 2026 BLET Academy is June 24, 2026, from 8:00 AM–6:00 PM. Attendance is required for all cadets. Professional casual dress is permitted for registration day.

ACADEMY UNIFORM

All uniform orders must be placed no later than June 19, 2026 to ensure timely arrival. All cadets are required to report in full uniform on the first day of class. For uniform information and ordering instructions, click here.

PCC BLET STUDENT POLICY MANUAL

We strongly encourage all incoming cadets to review the manual thoroughly prior to the start of the Academy. Policies will be covered in detail on mandatory registration day, and cadets will be required to pass a policy assessment and sign an acknowledgment of receipt. The PCC BLET Academy holds its cadets to the highest standards — a reflection of the career they have chosen to pursue and the communities they will serve.
