Animal Information & Names at Saiga's Costco Safari
Welcome to Saiga’s Costco Safari! While the primary draw may be our one and only Saiga Antelope, there are plenty of other quirky creatures—both real and inflatable—that add to the fun. From the legendary Saiga to the inflatable giraffes and the Costco shopping cart ducks, here's everything you need to know about our animals, including their names, personalities, and fun facts.
1. The Saiga Antelope: "Saigon" 🦌
Name: Saigon
Species: Saiga tatarica
Age: 7 years old
Gender: Male
Personality: A bit of a mystic loner. Saigon enjoys wandering the aisles and sniffing out new spaces (especially near the rotisserie chicken section). While he’s generally calm and friendly, he does tend to be a bit shy around large crowds, so be patient if he hides behind a bulk pallet or takes his time to approach you. He does have a soft spot for photo ops, so make sure to snap a pic if you catch him during a rare, regal moment!
Fun Fact:
Saigon’s distinctive bulbous nose isn’t just for show—it helps him filter out dust and regulate his temperature. We’ve installed a climate-controlled system in his pen to keep him happy and cool in our Costco environment.
2. Inflatable Flamingo: "Flicker" 🦩
Name: Flicker
Species: Inflatable Flamingo
Age: Technically ageless (being inflatable and all)
Personality: Flicker is the life of the party, always adding a touch of color and whimsy to the safari. Though he’s made of plastic, he has a flair for fun and is always ready for a photo session or a bit of attention from guests. Flicker enjoys lounging by the Snack Shack, where he can bask in the glow of the overhead lights and greet guests with his wide, plastic smile.
Fun Fact:
Flicker is often found in a variety of poses—from being perched on a cart to floating in front of the freezer section. His flexibility is unmatched!
3. Inflatable Giraffe: "Geraldine" 🦒
Name: Geraldine
Species: Inflatable Giraffe
Age: Forever young
Personality: Geraldine is our tallest and most graceful inflatable resident. Her long neck lets her peer over the top of the store and keep an eye on things. Geraldine enjoys overseeing the snack aisle and making sure no one misses the bulk-sized bags of chips. She’s known to spark spontaneous dance parties, especially when the music gets loud.
Fun Fact:
Geraldine has a special trick—when you whisper to her, she’ll bob her head in what can only be described as a giraffe’s way of saying, “Hi!”
4. Rubber Chicken Herd: "The Cluckers" 🐔
Name(s): Cluck, Nugget, Squeaky, and Fryer
Species: Rubber Chicken
Age: Ageless (again, rubber)
Personality: The Cluckers are a mischievous bunch. Known for popping up in the most random places, they’re always looking for a little attention. They often squeak when picked up or squeezed, causing fits of laughter from children and adults alike. While they don’t do much, their squeaky personalities make them crowd favorites. The Cluckers are often found wandering near the food court, so keep an eye on your snacks!
Fun Fact:
Each Clucker has its own distinct squeak—some high-pitched, others more of a squawk. If you collect all four, you can create a full-blown chicken chorus.
5. Costco Shopping Cart Ducks: "The Quackers" 🦆
Name(s): Quackmire, Mallard (and occasionally Waddle when it’s feeling feisty)
Species: Mallard Duck
Age: 3 years old (in duck years, that’s about 21!)
Personality: The Quackers are incredibly sociable, and they absolutely love hanging out by the Snack Shack. They’re often found following customers around the aisles or trying to sneak into carts, especially near the free sample station. They’re not shy about quacking for attention—and don’t even think about taking a handful of pretzels without offering them a nibble.
Fun Fact:
Quackmire has a notorious reputation for “shopping”. He’s often seen picking up random items like buckets of pickles or bags of rice, then waddling away proudly like he's found treasure.
6. Inflatable Otters: "Otterly" 🦦
Name: Otterly
Species: Inflatable Otter
Age: As old as the air inside
Personality: Otterly is one of the most playful residents of the safari. This inflatable otter loves to hang out near the bedding aisle, where kids love to climb on and bounce. He’s a total show-off and loves a good photo-op, especially if you get him at the perfect angle near the comfy pillows. Don’t let his static form fool you—Otterly has serious bounce potential.
Fun Fact:
If you jump on Otterly just right, he’ll make a fun, squeaky noise, making it sound like he's having a blast. He’s also the undefeated champion of air-filled swimming races.
7. The Mystery Raccoons: "The Trash Bandits" 🦝
Name(s): Rocky and Rita
Species: Procyon lotor (Raccoon)
Age: Unknown (but they’re definitely street-smart!)
Personality: These two elusive raccoons are known for their curiosity and adventurous spirit. While they aren’t regularly on display, they occasionally make late-night appearances around the loading dock or near the outdoor trash bins, where they like to scavenge and cause some chaos. Rocky and Rita are quite clever and have been known to outwit our animal control team on more than one occasion. If you see them, you’re in for a real treat—but be quick; they’re gone in a flash.
Fun Fact:
Rocky once made a break for the Snack Shack and nearly got a free snack before being escorted out. He’s the ninja of the raccoon world.
8. The Giant Inflatable Safari Animals: "The Giants" 🦁🐘🦓
Name(s): Leo (Lion), Ellie (Elephant), and Gertie (Giraffe)
Species: Inflatable Safari Animals
Age: Timeless
Personality: These oversized animals are more about ambiance than interaction. Leo, Ellie, and Gertie are perfect for photo ops and help create the jungle-like atmosphere we’ve cultivated at the safari. Leo the Lion is a bit of a proud show-off and always makes sure to pose for photos. Ellie the Elephant enjoys standing tall and making sure no one forgets how awesome she is. Gertie the Giraffe is gentle and a little shy, but she has a soft spot for kids who love to give her a high-five.
Fun Fact:
The Giant Safari Animals are sometimes found “playing” together in a coordinated set of poses—though their coordination seems to involve more bouncing than anything resembling animal behavior.
