Welcome to our new Primary 1 children!
For the past few weeks the P1s have been learning all about different sounds. They are now blending some sounds together to read words.
P2-4s enjoying spelling activities
The Big Bad Wolf sent P1-4 a letter today, asking us if he could come and visit. We then wrote some great imaginative stories about all the things that could have happened if he had come to Portgordon Primary.
Our topic this term is called 'The Town'. Last week the children worked in groups and showed fantastic team work in creating a bird's-eye view plan for their own town. They then used different construction materials to create a model. All the towns were eventually joined together to create one large community and then the children came up with ideas for the name of the town. Each child had one vote and the name that was most popular was Hazeltown.
P1-4 got to taste some delicious beetroot, fresh from Beechgrove Garden.
P1s were listening out for the initial sound in words and then sorted them into two groups - things that started with the sound m and things that did not.
P1s showed perseverance with this task of matching up the sound with the picture and the word.
25/9/25 Mary's Meals
P1-4 were learning about needs and wants. They learnt that not all children in the world are as lucky as we are. Some children don't have their basic needs met and are so poor they can't afford to buy food. They watched a video about a UK charity called Mary's Meals, who are helping these children by providing them with a meal when they are at school.
It only takes £19.15 to provide food, for one child, for antire year and P1-4 would like to try and raise this money. They have decided to have a copper collection which the whole school can take part in. We were off to a great start today with children being very generous and bringing in their coppers from home. We can not wait to see this tub full!
02/10/25 As part of our learning through our topic work, the class made values and rules for Hazeltown. It was then decided that the town needed a Mayor. The children wrote speeches and three successfull candidates were chosen. Everyone then voted for who they thought would make the best Mayor for Hazeltown.
