An Intelligent Agent is an automated program that you can set up in D2L. It can make you seem to be a bit more on top of things and help encourage interaction in the course from students.
An Intelligent Agent can send email notifications when something is coming due, when a student has not viewed the course in a set amount of time, and more. It bases this information on the same information that you get from Student Progress.
You can set an Intelligent Agent to run only one time or multiple times. If you find that you like using Intelligent Agents, you can also copy them from one course to another using the Course Copy/Import. If you are interested in learning more about Intelligent Agents, you can view the video below from D2L. It's a bit long, and we will go over much the same for the Canisius D2L Instance as ours is slightly different since Intelligent Agents has been updated since this video came out, so don't feel that you need to watch it. It does, however, provide a good primer on a basic use-case of Intelligent Agents.
Go to Edit Course in the Course Navbar
Find and click on Intelligent Agents in the Communications Section
Tip: When you go to edit course, it can be faster to use CMD+F (Mac) or CTRL+F (Windows) and search for Intelligent Agents instead.
