Focus: Support of the Homeless Population
Thousands in Erie County experience homelessness annually, with a quarter of those being children. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, such numbers increased exponentially allowing homelessness to emerge into an even more substantial societal problem. Levels of hunger have similarly been on the rise, with over 14% of children in New York facing food insecurity. We find it essential to respond to these statistics, as homelessness, hunger, and poverty have a direct impact on individual health. Through a day dedicated to providing food to the homeless population of Buffalo, we hope to assist our neighbors as well as the local non-profit organization, Friends of Night People, in tackling the problem of homelessness in our city.
Partner Spotlight: Friends of Night People
Service Challenge Objective: Support our homeless community members by making bagged sandwiches to be donated to a local homeless shelter.
Advocacy Action: Through the direction of the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County, we will be participating in a "Service-To-Go" project where we prepare sandwiches for Friends of Night People, a local non-profit organization that serves the homeless population of Buffalo. Friends of Night People will then be handing out our sandwiches to those in need during their daily distribution of meals.
How to get involved:
We are accepting donations to go towards the purchase of grocery items needed to make our sandwiches.
