Canisius College Unity
Educate. Advocate. Support.
Educate. Advocate. Support.
Unity is Canisius College's LGBTQIA+ and Allyship club. We discuss LGBT issues and news at general body meetings, host special events, and provide a safe, and comfortable environment for students. Unity respects the privacy of its members and welcomes everyone.
Unity exists to provide an environment in which students feel safe and comfortable discussing issues concerning sexual orientation and gender identities. Unity shall strive to educate members of the community regarding “assume[ing] responsibility for the spiritual, intellectual, and physical growth of each person” and “recognize[ing] that the quest for truth in education can only result from the willingness and allowance of individuals to speak from differing points of view.” Commitment to creating an atmosphere free of homophobic and transphobic behavior, along with LGBTQ+ advocating, in any form is fully consistent with Catholic education and the teachings of the Jesuits.
No outing - we value agency over the ability to identify one’s own orientation, identity, and membership. We ask that you do not point out other students as members of unity or identify their orientation or identity unless they choose to do so themselves.
No assumptions - We will take people as they choose to identify themselves. We will not make assumptions about their sexual identity, gender identity, etc.
Be honest with yourself and others.
Show support, love, and respect for all others, inside and outside of this organization.
