Great question! Most of our swimmers swim for a club team year-round, those being CHRISUTS Louisiana Aquatic Club, YMCA of Northwest Louisiana, or Bulldog Aquatic Club. Swimmers do not have to be on a club-team to participate, however they must be practicing.
CHRISTUS Louisiana Aquatic Club also offers high school practices during the season at Town South Swim Club. Please contact coach Daniel Crews for more information or visit this link.
Coach Tara Hardin and her staff offer a high school swim program during the season at Southside Swim Club from August 12 to November 19. Please contact coach Tara Hardin at (318) 617-0303 or visit this link.
Highly competitive meets, such as our Red River High School Conference meet, and the state championship meet, operate in a different format than regular meets. At prelim/final meets, all swimmers will compete in preliminaries. Prelims is a separate session than finals. At the conference meet, prelims is in the morning, and finals in the afternoon. At state, prelims is on a Friday, and finals is on a Saturday. Finals is limited to the top 16 swimmers from prelims in each event. For example, if a swimmer places 13th in the 50 free in prelims, they will be invited back to finals to compete in the 50 free.
Magnet is a LHSAA Division II school, however we are not restricted to competition against DII schools only in the regular season. Magnet competes against schools in the area such as Shreve, Byrd, Parkway, Haughton, Calvary, Loyola, Ruston, Alexandria, Choudrant, etc.
At the state meet, however, Magnet will only compete against other DII schools, such as St. Thomas More, Holy Cross, Saint Scholastica, Ruston, Lakeshore, etc.Â
Yes, your child has to have a physical to participate. All physicals are to be uploaded to Aktivate (formerly RegisterMyAthlete) along with your athletic registration packet.
