NYS has begun the FAFSA Completion Initiative to encourage all students to explore financial aid options after high school. Don’t let the paperwork overwhelm you—this initiative is designed to make the process easier, faster, and more supportive for students' college journey. Additional resources are located in the Senior Google Classroom and have been posted in the Google Classroom streams since the fall. If you are not planning to complete the FAFSA, your assistance in returning a waiver to your house office is greatly appreciated.
11th GR College Application Workshop:
THANKS FOR JOINING US
We are happy to continue supporting all of our students as they carve their way through a high school program that explores and prepare our students for whatever comes next! The powerpoint and resources are loaded into your Juniors - Guidance & Counseling Info Google Classroom. All juniors and their parents are reminded to schedule your individual post HS planning session with your School Counselor. Counselors will visit English classes the week of APRIL 20th to make sure every student is informed of post HS options and processes.
CONSTRUCTION CAREER FAIR
As school counselors, we love finding new opportunities to help our students explore diverse careers after high school. Mr. Williams accompanied a group of students to the Hudson Valley Career Fair at RCC. This immersive experience allowed students to explore the vast opportunities within the construction trades through hands-on activities, giving them a true sense of "a day in the life" of industry professionals. A huge thank you to Mr. Williams for capturing incredible moments from the day!

COLLEGE FINANCES
Have questions about financing college? Regardless of your grade, HESC can help. Click here to finding great advice, supports for understanding financial aid offers and options, as well as other relevant information. This is also where you can find information for the Excelsior Scholarship, the STEM Incentive Program and the NYS Dream Act to name a few of the popular opportunities they offer.
SENIORS: IMPORTANT
All seniors must complete a senior survey by June 6th. This short survey is very important since it lets the school counselors know where to send the final transcript after graduation. A final transcript will only be sent to one institution.
NO SURVEY COMPLETED =
NO FINAL TRANSCRIPT SENT in July
There are very few questions on the senior survey.
Your college must receive a final transcript after graduation to confirm your admission. ALL seniors must complete the survey to confirm plans after graduation.

BOCES
Students who attended the visit and indicated their interest in attending BOCES next year will receive decisions before spring break to learn if they have been accepted, waitlisted or denied attending a program. The names of accepted students will be forwarded to BOCES for their randomization into programs. Once we learn programs, we will confirm students who were placed are still interested in attending. If you'd like to see a more through outline of the process, check out this short video.
DO SOMETHING NEW THIS SUMMER!
The high school will be holding a job fair on April 21st from 5 to 7 pm in the auxiliary gym. Come and learn about current employment opportunities. Mrs. Donovan will also be there with applications for working papters. If you have a current physical on file with the nurse's office and a parent with you to sign the form, you can receive your working papers on the spot! For employment, academic or volunteer activities, you can also check out the “Employment” or “Summer Opportunities” links at the bottom of your
Naviance homepage to see available options. Working paper instructions are on our website.
COLLEGE BOUND ATHLETES
Did you that NOT ALL Monroe-Woodbury courses are NCAA approved? This means aspiring NCAA Division I and Division II athletes should avoid taking these classes. Any high school student considering college level sports should create their free profile page to understand rules and qualifications. There is much to know! Click here to be brought to their site to get you started. More information in the COLLEGE SPORTS & NCAA banner below and you can also see your counselor with questions.

SCHEDULING REQUEST UPDATE
Since February, we've asked our 9th-11th grade students to enter their course requests for the 2025-2026 school year and to see their school counselor before spring break to review their selections. Saved course requests may be viewed in the Class Registration screen of the student portal and if any changes are needed, students must contact their school counselor before the end of May. If a student did not enter any classes for themself, and chose not to respond to their counselor's requests to join a scheduling meeting, course selections will be made for them. Schedule changes are very limited in the fall, so don't be shy! Email or stop by to see your counselor for scheduling. Links to each counselor's calendar are in each Google Classroom for easy access. Students may also stop into their counselors' house office for assistance.
It is easier and quicker to log into your Naviance account! To explore potential careers, academic majors, and the colleges offering a pathway to your future goals, click on the Naviance logo at the bottom of your Google "waffle" menu.
After all summer school grades are finalized work can begin to calculate official GPA and rank for our current seniors. Students who attend MWHS for a minimum of four (4) semesters prior to senior year receive a rank and all other graduating students will be co-ranked. For this reason, we have a total class size and a number of ranked seniors. A six-semester, inital rank letter includes all ranked seniors and will be posted to your portal about the 3rd week of October. Use this rank on your college applications. A final, seven semester rank will be computed at the end of the first semester of the senior year. This provides the final decision for valedictorian, salutatorian and the top 25.
Any college bound athlete with goals of playing a Division I or Division II sport must review NCAA guidelines for qualification. The NCAA Eligibility Center has many resources and there is a Guide for the College-Bound Student Athlete that is produced every year for reference. Athletes and families should also attend the NCAA presenation at our College Fair. There is much to learn, so do not wait until senior year to start reading! Some courses at MW do NOT qualify for NCAA credit so it is important to speak openly and often with coaches and your counselor about your plans. While faculty and staff can help share expertise, remember only NCAA can grant eligibility. Keep reading and asking questions to help keep you on the right path.
Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) services are for individuals with disabilities that interfere with getting or keeping a job or who have difficulty advancing at their job. Information and the application will be sent home to all seniors with either a 504 or IEP around the second week of October. Only eligible students need apply. An ACCES-VR representative will be in touch with all applicants to review the next steps and the services that may be provided.
