The School Counseling Department theme of the month is Responsibility.
Responsibility is defined as taking care of one's self and others; to carry out a duty or task carefully and thoroughly. As you go through the month, we encourage you to think about responsibility and incorporate it into your lives.
ALL students registered to take the October 18th PSAT must complete a Blue Book readiness check before test day.
This important step will ensure students can access the College Board application which is how the digital PSAT is administered. These quick, 10 minute BlueBook Check-in sessions will run from 10/8 - 10/10 during lunch and after school in the library. Bring your chromebook and see Mr. McCooey at the library Student Help Desk.
Did you know 62 colleges and universities are signed up to meet with our seniors and 49 of them will be here in October? This FANTASTIC opportunity is not to be missed! To sign up for these small group meetings, seniors must log into their Naviance account (by clicking the Naviance Logo at the bottom of their Google Waffle), click Colleges, click College Visits and click "register" to pick your appointments. If you'd like to know more specific details, please be sure to click "view details" for instructions, then show up on the scheduled day/time of your visit.

Click the test name to be directed to the website for registration and test day details. Students must arrive at the HS by 7:30 AM on test day, tune their car radio to 94.5 FM and wait in their car until called into the building. Arrive with:

After all summer school grades are finalized work can begin to calculate official GPA and rank for our current seniors. The cumulative grading data for the entire graduating class is scrutinized so an accurate rank can be determined. Students who attend MWHS for a minimum of four (4) semesters prior to senior year receive a rank and all other graduating students will be co-ranked. A six-semester rank letter will be posted to your portal about the 3rd week of October. Seniors will use this rank on college applications.
A final, seven semester rank will be computed at the end of the first semester of the senior year. This provides the final decision for valedictorian, salutatorian and the top 25. The top 25 will be announced by high school administration in the spring.
Any college bound athletes with goals of playing a Division I or Division II sport must review NCAA guidelines for qualification. The NCAA Eligibility Center has many resources and there is a Guide for the College-Bound Student Athlete that is produced every year for reference. Athletes and families should also attend the NCAA presentation at our College Fair. There is much to learn, so do not wait until senior year to start reading! Some courses at MW do NOT qualify for NCAA credit so it is important to speak openly and often with coaches and your counselor about your plans. While faculty and staff can help share expertise, remember only NCAA can grant eligibility. Keep reading and asking questions to help keep you on the right path.
Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) services are for individuals with disabilities that interfere with getting or keeping a job or who have difficulty advancing at their job. All seniors with either a 504 or IEP are applicable to apply and information along with the application was emailed home to all seniors and guardians on September 15, 2024. After an application is completed and returned to the House A Office, an ACCES-VR representative will be in touch to review the next steps and the services that may be provided.
Students partner with their school counselor for the duration of their high school experience. If you have a question or concern, please allow us the courtesy to assist you directly. Counselors are located in their respective house offices. School psychologists, social workers, student assistance counselors, speech therapists and assistant principals are also in house offices.
While every student is welcome to check in with their counselor, we put a special focus on calling all seniors and freshmen into our offices each fall. In addition to our in-class lessons for seniors, we verify that every senior knows their anticipated diploma type and is working towards their specific post-high school goals. Seniors are bubbling over with questions about college, trade school, military and future employment and we love partnering with them as they work towards their not-too-distant goals! Equally important is the time we spend in our freshmen "Meet & Greets!" Whether in small group or individual meetings, students visit our office to learn where to find us, get comfortable accessing our services and better understand how to partner with us over their high school career. Students may visit their house office to schedule their own appointment or click their counselor's calendar link to grab a time slot. Otherwise, when called to your house office just show up!
