All contracts begin the first day of school and conclude on the last day of school with pay divided over 12 months (September-August).
Contracts that begin after the start of the school year, are less than a year, or for a work day less than 7.5 hours will be prorated.

The School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Program administers health insurance and other benefits to all K-12 school districts, educational service districts, and charter schools in Washington. Benefit plans and rates are available for your review on the SEBB website. Eligible new employees have 30 days to enroll with coverage beginning the following month of enrollment. New employees who begin their assignment on the first day of school will have coverage as early as the first day of school if enrollment forms are received by September 1.
New employees who currently have medical benefits through SEBB (new employees transferring from another WA state school district) will continue with the same medical plan through December 31. Please contact Jenilee Springer so your plan enrollment is transferred to our district. You will have an opportunity to change your existing plan during the open enrollment period held in November. Changes effective January 1.
Your salary placement is adjusted as we receive and process you educational records and employment verification forms. You can track the progress in Employee Access, a data component of Skyward. Data can be found as follows: Employee Information/Personal Information/Personnel/Professional Development.
New hires have up to 90-days from the start of their contract to submit documentation to finalize their placement. You will receive a letter from the Personnel Department once your salary placement is finalized. Any adjustments to your salary placement are retroactive to the start of your contract.
You are allocated 12 days of sick leave and 4 days of personal leave as a Mount Vernon certificated staff member prorated to your annual FTE. Paid leave permits an employee to be away from work for an eligible event and avoid negatively impacting pay, medical benefits, retirement and seniority. Sick leave has many benefits to you beyond when you are ill. Sick leave can be used when starting a family for absences related to child birth, adoption and child care, providing care for an eligible family member or in certain military deployments. Sick leave also has a cash value at the time of your retirement from the WA State retirement system.
Your sick leave balance grows and is portable. The balance is transferable to your next WA state school district employer within 5 years of separating from employment with the district. Verification of employment forms are used to report and transfer a sick leave balance between school districts. Submit a verification of employment form to your former WA state school district employer to transfer your sick balance to our district.
The WA State Department of Retirement Systems manages the retirement benefits for our employees. Your retirement account is portable and follows you throughout your WA State public school career. Educate yourself on retirement plans and programs and learn which will meet your retirement goals. You will be asked to to make a retirement plan selection when you complete your payroll paperwork.
