All certificated employees MUST have a valid WA state teaching or ESA certificate on file with the district before commencing their assignment. Certificates or licenses from another state or jurisdiction do not cover public school employment in Washington State. Certification can be obtained through the Certification Office at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Applicants can apply online using the e-cert system.
The Certification Office is exceptionally busy beginning in the spring through the fall. Avoid delays and ensure that you:
establish an e-cert account
apply for your WA state certification
provide all necessary documents
complete required testing
complete fingerprint processing
pay all fees
Periodically monitor your account to be able to quickly respond to any deficiencies found in your application
Employment with our district is on a conditional basis pending completion and clearance of a State and National Background check. As part of your background check and issuance of your first WA state certificate, you are asked to complete the fingerprint process if you have not completed this process in the last two years. Our office will notify you if you need to complete this process.
Mount Vernon School District offers fingerprinting services to new MVSD employees. Our fee is $85.00 and we accept cash, money order, debit and credit card payments. Please contact Alexia Bautista to schedule an appointment.
Fingerprinting services are available at your local ESD, Bellingham School District and Ferndale School District. Contact the respective agency or school district for more information.
All Mount Vernon School District employees who use computers or who supervise students using computers must read the Board of Education approved Acceptable Use Policy for Technology. Read through the top slide show which outlines the District Acceptable Use Policy. On the last slide, there is a link to a form where you will add your name and school to verify that you have read the information.
Completing this process alerts our IT department to grant you network access and establish your district email account. You are encouraged to complete this process as soon as possible to receive relevant and timely district-wide communication.
Per state law, RCW 28A.400, the legislature has now determined that additional safeguards are necessary in the hiring of school district employees and current substitutes to ensure the safety of Washington's school children. This is accomplished through WA state sexual misconduct disclosure release forms.
Our district uses Ethics Data, an electronic system to handle and process these forms. You will receive an e-mail with instructions and an access code to complete this required process. You will be asked to report any P-12 grade level employment regardless of assignment or location (in-state, out-of-state or in foreign countries).
Our department is responsible for remitting your forms to your former school employers.
We will need the following to finalize your salary placement:
official academic transcripts - transcripts either paper or e-transcripts files
clock hour forms - agency transcripts or individual clock hour verification forms
verification of employment forms
ALL academic credits and clock hours must be earned by SEPTEMBER 30 for salary placement consideration for the current school year (MVEA CBA Article VI. Section 1.B). As a new hire, you have 90 days from the start of their contract to submit your documentation.
Forward the verification of employment form to all school districts where you had certificated contracted and substitute employment, including our district if you previously worked for MVSD. Certificated experience must be completed by August 31 to be considered for the current school year's salary placement.
You may submit a records request to your last WA state school district employer authorizing them to forward your educational records and previously collected experience verification forms if you are a former WA state school district employee. Include an experience verification form to collect your current employment history and to transfer your sick leave balance.
The Mount Vernon School District uses Frontline Absence Management to simplify and streamline the process of recording and managing absences and finding substitutes. The system is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be accessed via internet, phone and a downloadable app.
