ELA 1

Stories and Storyboards with Holes and Independant Novel Analysis

Mrs. C's integrated ELA Class has been  reading Holes, then they will be creating a storyboard and sharing it with their classmates. During this time they are also working on reading skills, selecting evidence, making claims, explanation of evidence, comparing and contrasting, communicating effectively and precisely along with many other skills.  The 8th graders are working on an independant novel analysis, they each chose a novel they wanted to read and analyze, theme, plot, structure along with many other ideas.  Then when they finish the book they will get to create either a Board Game, Movie Poster or Brochure about promoting their book.  Next we will be moving on to poetry, and working with informational text.

8th Grade Career Explorations

On Their Way!

One of the requirements for 8th graders to graduate from 8th grade is for them to do one semester of Career Exploration.  This year we chose to use the IDLA class and I was their in room teacher.  Students worked through units to learn about types of jobs, how much education you need, how much money you can make depending on your job choice.  They also looked at other aspect of life afte high school, such as volunteering in your community, and what it means to be dependable.  Student finished up the coarse by Job shadowing someone with a career/job they may be interested in.  They had to follow them for 2 hours, take notes and ask questions.  They then had to answer questions about the shadow and write a thank you letter to the person they  job shadowed.  They all learned alot about different careers and what it takes to be successful.
