5th Grade Social Studies
We will be starting our year learning about maps. Our first project is called: My Atlas of the United States. We will be learning about different types of maps and creating our own maps and making an our own atlas with the different maps that we create in them. We will look at the geography, cultures, cities and other aspects of the U.S. We will also be learning basic maps skills. We are continuting to work on our Atlas, we have created different maps, physical and regional. In our next unit we will be looking at Native Americans and where they were located in the United States. We are also continuing to work on Map skills.
We are starting this year studying the states of Matter. Our first project is called "As a Matter of Fact" Our essential question is: How can we use what we know to identify unknown materials? We will explore, observe, investigate, and measure the different properties of matter. We are currently starting our unit on Crystal formation. Currently we have made crystals and done observations on that proces, we will be finishing this up and moving to our next unit.
8th grade has finished their independent novel analysis, and will be starting theri new project on Feb. 6th, Rthym and Flow, they will be learning about concreat/visual poetry. We will continue practicing for our ELA ISATS. 6-7th Are now working on their storyboards for the book Holes we are hoping to wrap this up in the next 3 weeks and then move on to our next project.
January 2023 Now that Map testing is over we are going to go on another book adventure, this time we are reading Call of the Wild. We are coordinating this with the Sled Dog Challenge that starts on the 21st here in Idaho. We will be taking a field trip to watch some of the racers start their race. In this book we will be looking at how to Persevere through adversity. Currently we are half way through our booki. We all traveled to Cascade on Jan. 30th to watch the beginning of the 300 mile Sled Dog Challenge, that they hold every year here in Idaho.
