PBIS at MVSC
PBIS at MVSC
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports and is an implementation framework for maximizing the selection and use of evidence-based prevention and intervention practices along with a multi-tiered continuum that supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral supports of all students. The ultimate goal of any PBIS program is to improve overall school climate and lay the foundations for building relationships that will pay dividends in the future.Â
In simpler terms, PBIS is a proactive way to improve school safety and promote positive behavior. By placing emphasis and praise on the behaviors that students should be displaying every day, school climate improves and student outcomes become more positive. At Mid Valley, the tenets of PRIDE are what holds the PBIS program together: Present, Respectful, Involved, Dependable, Empowered.
Together through consistency and positive relationships, PRIDE looks to improve the behavior of all students. PBIS overall aims to decrease behavioral infractions, showing annual improvement. It hopes to develop a positive school community, to teach everyone the expectations for our school, and to acknowledge students for displaying Spartan PRIDE. By concentrating on positive behaviors, PBIS at Mid Valley will create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment. Being consistent with addressing students when they do and do not meet behavioral expectations will increase compliance, provide students with greater structure, and clarify expected behavior. Students, faculty, and staff at Mid Valley will demonstrate the five behavioral expectations within both classroom and non-classroom settings at all times.
Students can earn rewards through Spartan PRIDE simply for following along with what they are expected to do. These rewards occur daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly in a variety of different forms. For more information on PBIS, click the link below. Mid Valley also has it's own PBIS Manual that a staff member would be happy to go through with any family if requested.
All PBIS programs utilize a regularly updated behavior matrix that is the guiding light to all PBIS programming. That is no different at Mid Valley. The PRIDE matrix identifies 6 key areas where the 5 key behavioral expectations are to be adhered to, and identifies what it looks like to follow them. Continue below to see what that looks like at Mid Valley!
