Odin, my Alaskan Malamute/Siberian Husky, and I on a hike in San Francisco when he was only 1 year old. He is now 11 years old!
I got married in the Summer of 2024 and will be going by my new name, Mrs. Pham, though past students & families might remember me as Ms. Vuong.
I'm very lucky to live in San Jose, where I'm surrounded by culture, art, and amazing food every day. I really can't imagine living anywhere else!
When I'm not teaching, you can catch me reading, hiking with Odin, drinking my third espresso of the day, or planning my next travel adventure.
I have the good fortune of being the first in my family to attend college. Education is something I will always cherish, and I hope to instill the same passion for learning with my students.
This will be my fifth year of teaching at Pomeroy. I also completed my pre-service training at Rose, Curtner, Spangler, and Weller Elementary Schools (in various grade levels). In many ways, MUSD made me!
Fun fact: I used to be a preschool teacher before moving up to K-8, and out of all the grade levels I've taught in, 5th and 6th are my absolute favorites to teach.
I attended 5 different schools during my K-12 education and 5 different colleges before earning my degrees & certifications.
I received my Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education at Mission College, where I taught preschool (ages 3-5).
I went on to earn my Bachelor's degree in Child & Adolescent Development (Preparation for K-8 Teaching) at San José State University, where I student taught in a sixth grade mathematics classroom.
I then returned to my alma mater, where I earned my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Master's degree in Education (Curriculum & Instruction), and student taught in kindergarten, fifth, and sixth grades.
Environment & Community - I believe children need a safe and inclusive learning environment in order to be and continually grow into their very best selves. I hope our classroom will be a positive space where all students feel a sense of belonging and are willing to try new things, make mistakes, try again, seek help when needed, and, in turn, help others when they need it.
Social & Emotional Learning - Students learn more than just academics in school. Students are also developing important social, emotional, and life skills that will serve them beyond our classroom walls, and I will try my best to help them refine these critical skills throughout our time together.
Beyond the Classroom - I am a firm believer that we all have so much to learn from each other. Students are unique individuals who bring their own culture, lived experiences, knowledge, opinions, and personality to the classroom. I will always strive to incorporate students' talents, interests, and needs into our lessons in an effort to keep learning relevant and exciting for all.
Continual Growth - As an avid lifelong learner myself, I hope to inspire all of my students to strive for continual improvement in their own lives. There is always room to learn and grow!
