The MyCAP (My Career and Academic Plan) program at Nipmuc is designed to help students take ownership of their learning and future by engaging in meaningful experiences across high school. MyCAP provides structured opportunities for self-reflection, exploration, and planning so that students are prepared for life after graduation—whether that be college, career, or other pathways. Through this program, students gain the tools and confidence to answer four essential questions: Who am I? Where am I going? How am I going to get there? What contributions can I make to my community?
To guide this work, MyCAP is organized into four domains:
Personal/Social (Who am I?)
Students explore their strengths, values, emotions, and goals. Each year, they build skills in self-awareness, perseverance, and decision-making to better understand themselves and how they relate to others.
Career Development/Education (Where am I going?)
Students research and explore career pathways aligned to their interests and strengths. They learn about options that connect to their skills and passions, with increasing opportunities each year to apply this knowledge through real-world experiences such as internships and job shadows.
Academic/College and Career Planning (How am I going to get there?)
Students engage in academic planning, beginning with understanding graduation requirements and course options, and progressing toward identifying post-secondary pathways. By senior year, they are completing the steps necessary for college, career, or military readiness.
Civic Engagement (What contributions can I make to my community?)
Students reflect on their role in a larger community and learn how to collaborate, respect diversity, and lead others. They participate in projects and experiences that build civic responsibility and leadership skills.
Grade Level Objectives
Each grade level includes specific objectives and activities aligned with these domains. For example, freshmen focus on identifying strengths and exploring initial career interests, sophomores build awareness of career pathways through their Holland personality types, juniors create resumes and participate in internships, and seniors take concrete steps toward their post-graduate plans while leading and contributing to their communities.
Together, these domains and grade-level objectives ensure that Nipmuc students graduate with a strong sense of identity, purpose, and readiness to succeed in college, career, and civic life.
Connection to the MURSD Portrait of a Learner
The Nipmuc MyCAP is designed to help students make intentional progress in their personal, academic, and career development while connecting directly to the Portrait of a Learner Competencies. Each MyCAP objective aligns with an “I can” statement, giving students clear, actionable opportunities to master key skills. By working on these objectives, students simultaneously advance within the larger framework of the Portrait of a Learner.
