Daily Schedule
School starts at 7:30am with first bell ringing at 7:25am. The school day ends at 2:00pm. At Nipmuc we use a 5x7 rotating schedule, meaning that while students are enrolled in 7 classes, only 5 meet each day. Students also have a break time and lunch time each day based on where their classes are located during the second and fourth blocks of the day. Students in the Green Wing during second block have first break and students in the Blue Wing during second block have second break. Similarly, lunch assignments are based on what floor students' classes are on during fourth block. Classes on the first floor take first lunch, second floor take second lunch, and third floor take third lunch.
Typical Course Load
English (full year)
Math (full year)
Science (full year)
History (full year)
World Language (full year)
2 Electives (full and half year electives are available in most subject areas)
Notes:
All freshmen take Freshman Seminar and Foundations of Health and Wellness in place of 1 elective.
Once graduation requirements have been fulfilled, students do not have to enroll in math, science, or history unless they choose to do so.
Course Levels
College Post-Secondary (CPS): Designed to be challenging, will help to prepare students for college; classes move at steady but manageable pace
Honors (H): Designed to prepare students for competitive 4 year colleges; classes move at a quicker pace; classes review the curriculum in more depth; expect daily homework
Advanced Placement (AP): College-level courses offered during high school. Curriculum for AP courses is approved through an audit completed annually by the College Board.
Course Registration
8th graders, coming from Miscoe: In late January/early February, Miscoe teachers will enter placement recommendations into PowerSchool. Then, students will be able to enter their choices for languages and electives. Finally, Nipmuc school counselors will create schedules based on requests. If you have any questions or concerns about teacher recommendations, please contact the teacher directly.
Click here for specific information about 25-26 course registration.
Students new to MURSD: Your Nipmuc school counselor will receive your transcript from your previous school and use that information to place you into classes here. You will be able to request electives by completing the Google form for new students.
Please see the Nipmuc Program of Studies for information about all core and elective courses.
Advisory
In addition to the classes in your schedule, you will also be placed in an Advisory group at Nipmuc. Advisory groups meet every Wednesday from 10:31am to 11:05am and are made up of students in the same grade. A variety of activities, lessons, meetings, etc. take place during Advisory.
Clubs and Activities
One of the best ways to meet new people and get involved in a new school community is to join extracurricular groups. Nipmuc has a wide variety of clubs and sports and many are open to join at any point in the year.
