In 4th Grade Music, students work on a variety of musical activities, including singing music, playing instruments, learning to read music, moving to music, and listening to musical artists from across genres and time periods.
The cornerstone of the 4th Grade curriculum is John Feierabend's Conversational Solfège. This curriculum teaches students to read music the way that humans learn language- by first understanding and conversing aurally. In music, we use rhythmic and tonal solfège syllables.
So far this year, 4th graders have been upto a variety of activities, including playing drums and Orff percussion instruments, learning folk dances, reviewing instrument families, singing and identifying tonal patterns using Do-Re-Mi, and learning about our Musician(s) of the Month.

Fourth graders have begun reading tonal music using mi-re-do patterns! Very exciting to read tonal music for the first time. We're also continuing on ukulele, and have learned the chords, F, C, Aminor and C7. We'll be playing for you at Specialist night on 5/14!
