In 3rd Grade Music, students work on a variety of musical activities, including singing music, playing instruments, learning to read music, moving to music, and listening to musinal artists from across genres and time periods.
The cornerstone of the 3rd Grade curriculum is John Feierabend's Conversational Solfège. This curriculum teaches students to read music the way that humans learn language- by first understanding and conversing aurally. In music, we use rhythmic and tonal solfège syllables.
So far this year, 3rd graders have been upto a variety of activities, including playing drums and Orff percussion instruments, learning folk dances, reviewing instrument families, speaking and identifying rhythms in 6/8 time, and learning about our Musician(s) of the Month.
