In 1st Grade Music, students participate in John Feierabend’s First Steps In Music Curriculum. This curriculum is designed to help students become Tuneful, Beatful, and Artful.
Each time students come to music, they participate in a lesson with Eight Musical “Workout” Activities:
1. Pitch Exploration (Vocal Warm-ups)
2. Song Fragments- Echo Songs/Call-and-Response Songs
3. Simple Songs
4. Arioso (Child-created Tunes)
5. Movement Exploration (Movement Warm-Up)
6. Movement for Form and Expression
7. Movement with the Beat
8. SongTales

1st Graders have been working hard each week in their First Steps workouts. Some new songs we've been working on are "Go Round The Mountain," "Caney Mi Macaro," and "When I Was One." We'll be singing and moving for you at Specialist Night on May 14!

A big part of music in Kindergarten and 1st grade is working on developing our singing voice. Check out the singing in Ms. Lopes' class. Ms. Massa is leading the class through waking up their voices, singing the song "Riding In A Buggy" and "Kahuli Aki."
