Scholarship

Academic Achievement Scholarship

  • This scholarship is automatically awarded to a student once admitted.

  • Awards are for up to four years or completion of first degree (whichever comes first).

  • Students must meet a 2.75 GPA and academic progress requirements each year to renew.

  • Cannot be combined with Presidential Fellowship, Marvin D. Mills Scholarship, GSP/GSA/GSE Scholarships or National Merit Finalist Scholarships.

  • Initial award is based on self-reported GPA. Once high school graduation occurs, student will submit a final high school transcript, and the scholarship office will make any updates necessary.

  • The student's highest test score will be used for awarding Academic Achievement Scholarships. We do not superscore.

Competitive Scholarship Application

  • This is the application for the rest of our scholarships at Murray State. They can be based on need, academics, extra curricular activities, major, etc.

  • Last year we awarded out more than $115 million in scholarships with 99% of our students receiving at least one scholarship from MSU.

  • The student completes this application, and it will apply them to all Murray State Scholarships they are eligible for.

  • The application opens up on September 1st on the student's MyGate account.

  • The student needs to complete this application and submit it by 4:30 pm (Central time) on February 6th to be considered for 1st round scholarships. This is their best chance to be awarded scholarships at Murray State.

Presidential Fellowship

  • This covers the cost of tuition, on-campus housing (double-occupancy rate), and a meal plan.

  • Students who have a minimum of a 28 composite ACT score (or minimum of 1300 SAT Verbal and Math Combined Score) AND a 3.7 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.

  • Students must be admitted before they can access the scholarship application.

  • The deadline to apply is December 1st at 4:30 pm (Central time).

Alumni Legacy Grant

  • Provides in-state tuition to eligible out-of-state undergraduate children and grandchildren of Murray State graduates.

Diversity Scholarships

  • Students must submit the scholarship application by the deadline as advertised in the scholarship application system.

Accepting Scholarships

  • Once a student has been awarded scholarships, they will receive an email via their Murray State email.

  • Students who completed the Competitive Scholarship Application by February 6th should receive notification of award around St. Patrick's Day

  • Students simply log back into their MyGate, click on "Financial Aid/Scholarship" and click "My Awards".

  • Awards need to be accepted by May 1st. If students do not accept by this date, the scholarship office will take that scholarship and re-award to other students. This means if a student is awarded money, and they need it, they should accept it. Even if they are not 100% on Murray State yet.

Step-by-Step Guide to the Competitive Scholarship Application

  • The student needs to log onto their MyGate account and navigate to the "Financial Aid/Scholarship" tab on the left.

  • The student will need to click on the "Apply Online" link under the "Applications" box

  • The student will then click on the "Log in here" box.

  • Click on the "My Applications" tab at the top of the screen

  • Scroll down to the General Scholarship Application for 2023-2024 application and click "Start Application"

  • After the student has completed the application and been awarded scholarships, they can accept or decline those scholarships by clicking the “My Awards” tab at the top of the scholarship manager tab.
