Admission Requirements
2.75 GPA or higher, unweighted High School GPA, we do not require ACT or SAT for admission purposes
2.0-2.74 GPA, we will complete a holistic review of the student
You can apply at murraystate.edu/apply
Admission is based on Unweighted High School GPA on a 4.0 scale
Rolling admission but practically speaking the sooner the student can be admitted the better
A student can expect to hear back on their admission status within one week. If they have not heard back in that time frame it could mean....
Missing a transcript or test score
Did not fully submit
Murray State University does not use the Common App
Transcript Information
Transcripts can be sent through....
Parchment (or similar service),
Mail,
Emailing it to msu.admissions@murraystate.edu
I can collect them when I come for visits or by email as well
College Credit (Dual Credit, AP, etc.)
Quite often, students and parents do ask about college credit on the high school transcript. Murray State will need the official transcript from the institution where the college credit was awarded.
I always encourage students to visit murraystate.edu/evaluate to see how their credit transfers to Murray State.
If the credit does not appear, that could just mean we have not transferred that credit in the past. If this occurs they can email Jennifer Husemann at jhusemann@murraystate.edu
AP/IB credit will only be accepted from an official score reports transcript.
Common Mistakes with the Application
Wrong birthday
Wrong admit term
Some students do mark the "Summer term" as when they are starting. A notable amount of these students do end up actually starting in the "Fall".
If any changes do need to be made to an application after being submitted, the student can email msu.admissions@murraystate.edu
Forgetting their password/can't get into account
They can email msu.admissions@murraystate.edu or call (270) 809-3741 to reset
To start filling out an application, the student can visit murraystate.edu/apply
They would scroll down to First-Time Freshman
Some students do believe they would be considered a "transfer student" since they are taking Dual Credit or AP classes. They are still considered a First-Time Freshman
As long as they are taking the college credit before high school graduation, they are a First-Time Freshman
They would then hit "create account" under "Sign In"
This is where students typically input wrong information.
The items I have selected are the same items (most) students will use.
Once a student has created their account it will take them to this "home" screen
They would then start an application by clicking on the blue "Create a New Application" button
Student should click the first blue button "Start a new Undergraduate Application"
There is a spot for students to input their (if applicable) college credit information
If a student cannot afford the application fee ($40) please let me know.
Once the student has submitted their application they can log back into their account and view the status of their application.
Once we have made a decision it will appear under the "Status" column next to their application.
Student will receive an initial email
Student will receive a "Murray State Said Yes" packet via mail a few days later with detail information on their next steps
Student does have the option to go through the Admission Appeal process
They would email Leigh Knight at lknight@murraystate.edu
