Complete the dual enrollment packet and return to Mrs. Ehman in the counseling office
Apply to the college that you chose via their website and by the deadline (May 1st) - new students only!!!! If you are a returning student, DO NOT APPLY AGAIN! Make sure to mark your student type as "dual enrollment!"
**You should NOT pay an application fee! Bypass that option by NOT inputting debit/credit card information. If you are charged, email Mrs. Ehman so that she can assist you in requesting a refund from the college.
Complete the Dual Enrollment Funding Application by the deadline (May 1st) - instructions found here - new AND returning students
This must be completed each year in order for the state of Georgia to pay for your classes.
Make sure to indicate your college of choice on the application.
Make sure to put MCHS as your high school on the application. Otherwise, I do not "see" your application on my side to approve your funding.
Keep your school issued Chromebook over the summer if you do not have a personal computer!
With the exception of ENGL 1101, all Fall semester classes begin BEFORE MCHS BEGINS SCHOOL!
Sign up for the Remind account for your institution and grade level if you haven't already (see Mrs. Ehman for more information on how to join)!
Sign up for orientation at your college - new students only and mandatory
"To Do's When Your Class(es) Starts"
Log in to either Okta (GNTC) or GeorgiaVIEW (DSC) on the first day of class.
Download your syllabus for each class.
Write all due dates and deadlines in your physical planner or Google Calendar (with alerts!).
If you need a physical planner, please come see your counselor!
Complete all "no show" assignments as stated in your class syllabi.
If you do not complete these no show assignments, you will be DROPPED from your classes. It is very hard to be reinstated to dropped courses, and oftentimes, students who are reinstated are so behind that they do not make well in those courses.
Check your college email daily! This is how your professors will expect you to communicate!
Dual Enrollment FAQs
How many credits is one college class worth?
Each college class is worth one full credit.
How is a college class "weighted" in regard to GPA?
Each college class is weighted at a 5 compared to a "regular" class being weighted at a 4.
What does this mean for my GPA?
If you do well in the college class, your GPA is boosted more than if you made the same grade in a regular class weighted at a 4.
If you do NOT do well in the college class, your GPA lowers more than if you made the same grade in a regular class weighted at a 4.
Do I have to pay for my dual enrollment classes?
The state of Georgia pays for up to 30 credit hours worth of classes as well as most books and other materials that you need for your courses.
There may be financial consequences if you fail/withdraw from classes.
See more detailed information here.
How do I know what classes will transfer to the postsecondary institution of my choice?
Go to the website of the college that you are interested in (i.e. UGA).
Type "transfer equivalency tool" into the search bar.
Click on the link that the website provides.
Type in the institution where you took the class and received credit (i.e. GNTC) and then the class that you are currently taking (i.e. PSYC 1101) to see how that class transfers.
Need your college transcript sent to another institution?
The counseling department CANNOT do this for you! Please follow the link to the left if you took dual enrollment courses at Dalton State College, and use the instructions on the right if you took dual enrollment courses at GNTC.
