Completing a Protection Order at the Gateway Center
Step 1: Call us

Paperwork submitted before 12noon will speak to a judge the same day
Paperwork submitted 12:01 or later will speak to a judge the next business day
Step 2: Complete your paperwork
A Navigator will walk you through completing your paperwork over the phone
Step 3: Submit your paperwork
We will submit your order for Phone Court, and give you a time frame for when the judge will call you.
Step 4: Attend court
Court will occur over the phone. During phone court, the judge will let you know weather or not they are able to grant your order.
Step 5: Receive a copy of your signed order
If your order is granted, the Gateway Center will email you a copy of your signed order. This email will also contain next step information.
Other Places to Obtain a Protection Order
Below are options for obtaining a Protection Order in Multnomah County when The Gateway Center is not your best option. If you reside outside Multnomah County, you may obtain Restraining Order information by contacting your local county courthouse.

How to Complete a Protection Order Online (Without an Advocates Help)
Step 1: Visit the Oregon Guide and File Website (OGF)
This is where you will fill out your paperwork and send it for court.
Step 2: Register your Account
On the OGF main page, you will see an icon in the upper right corner that looks like a person. Click that link and scroll to "Register."
After you fill out the registration page and click register, you will be taken back to the main page. However, now in the upper right corner you will see your email instead of the icon that looks like a person.
Step 3: Fill out your Paperwork
1) On the main page click “Start your legal process”
2) Click on the type of order you would like to fill out.
3) Click “APPLY for a new Restraining Order” and click next.
From there the system will walk you through filling out your paperwork. If you have questions as your moving along, you may contact the courthouse at 971-274-0600.
Step 3: Submit Your Order for Court
You will come to a place where you can review your paperwork and then click submit.
Step 4: Attend Court
You will get a call from a judge between 1:15 and 4pm
Same Day: If paperwork was submitted by 12noon
Next Business Day: If paperwork was submitted at 12:01 or later

FAPA - Family Abuse Protection Order
Incident Requirements
At least one incident in which the person has physically harmed you or made you afraid that they would in the last 6 months (this time frame can be extended if the person lived over 100 miles from you or was incarcerated).
Relationship Requirements
Intimate partner, x-intimate partner or family member

EPPDAPA - Elderly and Disabled Persons Order
Incident Requirements
Physical harm or intimidation of a person with a disability and/or 65 or older within the last 6 months. (this time frame can be extended if the person lived over 100 miles from you or was incarcerated).

SAPO - Sexual Assault Protection Order
Incident Requirements
At least one incident in which the person has had sexual contact with you that you did not or could not consent to; and this person makes you afraid for your physical safety.
Relationship Requirements
The person filing this protection order must be unable to apply for a FAPA.

SO - Stalking Order
Incident Requirements
At least two incidents of alarming and unwanted contact in the last 2 years.
