PROGRAMME DATES LENGTH
8 Days March Break (exact dates and flight itinerary shared after registration confirmed)
PROGRAMME SUMMARY:
Witness the cherry blossoms in bloom and explore Japan in this hands-on experiential trip blending both rural and modern society. This unique travel experience will combine Japanese history and culture, as well as innovation and industry. Our program to Japan begins in Fukuoka, plunging students into the rich traditions and charming beauty of rural Japan. In this remote corner of Kyushu island, students actively contribute to the local community, assisting in sustainable farming projects and trying their hand at traditional crafts and local delicacies. The group then travels to Hiroshima to explore the history of WW2 and the impact of the atomic bomb. From there, students travel to the city of Kyoto, known for its blend of history and modernity. While in Kyoto, students explore how Japan continues to innovate in the face of natural disaster, while also exploring the city's iconicaly Japanese architecture.
GEx learning will revolve around intersectional themes of culture and identity, peace and conflict and sustainability. GEx connections will be made as always to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. GEx travel programmes are led by Mulgrave and our educational partners at Insight Global Education. An overview and sample GEx itinerary can be found below.
