The usual weekly practice schedule is below for the 2025-26 school year.
As a reminder, signing up for practices is required, as every week can be different! Please see the HSC practice sign up sheet for more details.
Monday: 8-9:30 pm
Wednesday: 7-8:30 pm
Thursday: 8-9:30 pm
On days where WIBIT Wednesday would interfere with our practice times, practice will be moved to 8:30 to 10pm that evening.
Practices last an hour and a half, and are run by our fantastic captains team. They will prepare workouts, and there are usually different options for you to choose from! With a value on flexibility, we want you to make practice work for you. Take things at your own pace.
A usual practice starts with the team meeting on the SDC pool deck 5-15 minutes before practice starts to socialize and prepare for swimming. This is followed by approximately 30 minutes of warmup, and then an hour of sets, followed by a short cooldown.
For the most part, that’s completely up to you. If any set is too tough or too easy for you, you can adjust it so you get the challenge you’re looking for. If you’re somebody that just wants to go take it easy, get some laps in and socialize, that’s awesome and we’re glad to have you! If you’re somebody that wants to train hard for the travel meets, that’s also really cool and you will be able to find others who want to train with you.
You will need to provide your own swimsuit, goggles and towel. There are usually swimmers with extra goggles if you need it for a day. We also use pull buoys and kickboards as standard equipment, but these are available for use at the pool.
No. Practice is always optional for members. We encourage you to come whenever you can. Many of our members try to make it 1-2 times per week, but you are always welcome to do more or less depending on your schedule and other priorities.
