To be considered for NJHS membership at Mount Sinai Middle School, students must:
Academic Requirement:
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 94.5 or higher for an average of three quarters. (6th Grade Q4, 7th Grade Q1, 7th Grade Q2).
- Applies to all Middle School classes of 2027 and beyond. Current class of 2026, please see advisors for requirements.
Selection Process
Step 1: Academic Screening
Students meeting the academic requirement receive an application packet in February.
Step 2: Application Submission
Eligible students complete a comprehensive application including:
- Documentation of interscholastic activities
- Documentation of extracurricular activities
- Minimum 25 hours of community service with verification [Forms available at the Guidance Department]
- Typed essay addressing the five pillars [prompt will be provided at the time of the applications]
- Required signatures

Step 3: Faculty Council Review
A Faculty Council evaluates applications using an objective rubric based on:
- Diversity of interscholastic activities (school clubs, teams, groups)
- Diversity of extracurricular activities (outside of school)
- Quality and quantity of community service
- Essay quality and reflection
- Overall demonstration of the five pillars
Step 4: Selection & Notification
Accepted students and their families are notified in early February. Admission is based on the overall evaluation of all five pillars, not solely on academic achievement.

- Admission is based on demonstrated excellence across all five pillars
- The number of students selected may vary each year
- Decisions of the Faculty Council are typically final

Once inducted, members must:
- Maintain academic standards (minimum GPA)
- Participate in chapter service projects and activities
- Complete required service hours each semester
- Attend regular meetings
- Uphold the standards of the five pillars
- Follow the NJHS Code of Conduct
Members who fail to maintain standards may be placed on probation or dismissed from the organization.
