Winter 2025 Goals & Strategies:
Reflecting on my previous practicum, I recognize the importance of intentional lesson and unit planning in supporting student engagement and learning. This year, I plan on perfecting my planning process by focusing on mid-range instructional coherence as well as responsive lesson design that adapts to students needs. My goals moving forward include enhancing my mid-range planning by incorporating student progress tracking and differentiated instruction more intentionally. I want to ensure that my lesson sequence builds upon prior knowledge and allows flexibility for reteaching or extension based on student understanding.
Reflection:
This practicum helped me strengthen my planning process by focusing on both mid-range coherence and responsive lesson design. I was intentional in tracking student progress and using that data to inform differentiation, reteaching, and extensions. My lesson sequences built on prior knowledge while remaining flexible to adapt to student needs, resulting in stronger engagement and learning outcomes.
Winter 2024 Goals & Strategies:
After reflecting on my fall goal, I am very pleased with my overall performance. I was able to implement this goal in my classroom by following certain activities and templates that students were already familiar with upon my arrival. This strategy helped students quickly adjust to my teaching style, which later allowed me to introduce new concepts and activities into the classroom. Throughout my practicum, I was very passionate about implementing hands-on learning, which I was able to do with the help of my mentor teacher. This included drawings, science projects, math games, and a variety of new assessment strategies. I was also able to use the mid-range plan that I had created prior to my practicum to teach the science unit, which was extremely helpful. This helped me better understand the importance of planning ahead. My goal moving forward is to use the knowledge that I have gained to implement more technology into my lesson planning. I want students to have the opportunity to work with a variety of websites and resources to expand their knowledge.
Fall 2023 Goals & Strategies:
My goal for this semester is to target different aspects of learning in order to encourage students' contribution. This includes connecting my lesson templates to those that they are already familiar with, which will allow them to understand their task and feel more comfortable completing it on their own. When planning my lessons, I would like to incorporate many different activities that allow for deep thinking, collaboration, and growth to occur. I will do this by creating multiple learning paths for students to use based on their comfort and understanding of the lesson as well as the learning outcomes found in our program of studies. (PL 1, 2, 5, 6, & 7)
Winter 2023 Goals & Strategies:
After reflecting on my previous goal, I am happy to have accomplished it throughout my field placement. During my three connected lessons, I was able to target a few learning outcomes and create a very effective lesson plan that allowed students to reach the targeted goals. I created and used effective assessment strategies in order to track their learning and progress throughout the week. My goal for next semester is to target different aspects of learning in order to encourage students' contribution.
Fall 2022 Goals & Strategies:
I believe that my children's literature log has contributed tremendously to my knowledge of planning for learning. By creating small lessons and class activities based on multiple different picture books, I was able to learn about all of the different factors that contribute to an engaging lesson. I have accomplished my personal goal, which was using the help of my mentor teacher in order to reach the best possible outcome, as she is much more experienced than I am. She was able to share many different assessment and lesson plan ideas with me that helped me expand on my ideas
My goal for next semester is to really focus on curricular outcomes and do my absolute best to target those outcomes when planning different activities for my lessons.
Winter 2022 Goals & Strategies:
My goal for this semester was to construct an effective lesson plan. I was able to focus on all of the important aspects that are highlighted in our B.Ed. program outcomes under "Planning for Learning." By creating this lesson plan, I got the opportunity to see what teaching is really like. I began to understand the struggles that come with classroom and time management.
When creating my lesson plan, I wanted to ensure that all students understood their task. In order to do that, I decided to follow the same concepts demonstrated in some of their previous lessons. This helped all students relate back to some activities and build on their previous knowledge. I also wanted to create an inclusive classroom environment because I believe that it is a very important part of planning for learning. By having the students all sit together and giving them the opportunity to share their ideas and listen to their classmates, I felt like they were all very included in the lesson. To accomplish my initial goals, I made sure that each step of the lesson was relevant and aligned with their learning objectives. I also ensured that each part of my lesson focused on a different learning method (visuals, speaking, listening, etc.).
Fall 2021 Goals & Strategies:
In order to plan for learning effectively, on must create an inclusive environment where children will engage and understand the lessons being taught in the classroom. Conversations and activities regarding the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit must all be incorporated when lesson planning in order to ensure that the proper curriculum is being covered. These topics are essential in the classroom. To achieve my goal, I must first educate myself on the important factors of learning and explore different teaching methods in the classroom. My main goal when lesson planning is to stay clear of any topics that may be offensive or cause discomfort. Topics like this include different cultural backgrounds as well as race and gender. When topics like these are mentioned, I will maintain an unbiased opinion throughout my lessons, and I will ensure that no stereotypical ideas are being presented.
I will also accomplish my goal by relating back to the TQS (Teaching Quality Standard), which states that I must seek feedback in order to enhance my teaching practice. By focusing on student progress, I will be able to understand which teaching methods are most and least effective. I will also be collaborating with other teachers to build personal and collective professional capacities and expertise. My intentions are to ensure that all students feel comfortable, safe, and respected after every lesson discussion.
