Various studies have expressed that external signals from the extracellular matrix (ECM) is critical towards regulating morphology and differentiation in myogenesis. Coating an cell plate with an extracellular matrix derived protein is believed to provide myoblasts' interactions with the (ECM) as to using traditional culture plates. It is believed this bioengineering application of protein coatings can promote cell mobility, alignment, and fusion to enhance myogenic differentiation. We aim to apply and compare the protein coatings gelatin and fibronectin to observe the relative morphology and mRNA expression of key myogenic markers of C2C12 cells during differentiation.
