As a teacher wants the students to succeed, they must be able to teach the students in a way that will promote their individual learning. This is done by creating engaging activities that help students to understand the lesson that is being taught. It is also achieved by interacting with the students and providing support when needed.
Goal for Winter Semester 2026: For my final practicum in Winter 2026, my goal is to integrate more technology. During my Fall 2024 practicum, I had used a lot of technology, although I felt that I did not have the chance to explore unique resources. I had used computers almost everyday for a variety of things such as writing, math practice, research, projects, etc. However, I felt that I did not get to explore more 'fun' resources such as the resource Gizmos.
Relevancy: Being familiar with technology is relevant as in modern day technology is used for countless things. Being able to teach it and incorporate it for my future students will benefit them not only in school but outside life as well.
How I will accomplish this: Before and during my Winter 2026 practicum, I will ensure that I take the time to explore a variety of digital resources. I will create a master document to track these resources and possible uses for them. I will also contact my university professors for any resources they may have used or really enjoy using. I will also add their suggestions to my master list.
Growth: This goal had went very well. In my practicum school, there is limited technology and it must be planned in advance to ensure you are able to book the laptops/Ipads. As I was creating mid/long range plans, I was able to effectively implement technology into my lessons. I found technology particularly useful for my ELL students. I also found that my students were more engaged when using technology. For example, I would have students practice their math skills by completing online games which they very much prefered.
Artifact: Below is a lesson with technology. We collaborated with our grade one buddies to make their stories come to life. The grade one's wrote and illiutrated stories within their own class. My grade fours were partnered with the grade ones to help make their stories come to life. Using the platform Scratch, the grade fours taught the garde ones how to use scratch and build their stories.
Goal for Fall semester 2024: My biggest goal for this competency for the Fall 2024 semester is in regards to the timing of my lessons. I feel that as if every time I teach a lesson, I am often rushing the intro or conclusion which alters the effectiveness of the lesson, especially when the closure is being skipped.
How I will accomplish this: This goal is very closely related to my goal for the competency of planning for learning, therefore it will have essentially the same plan of action. I will begin by observing the way in which my mentor teacher creates her lessons and tactics she uses in order to stick to the dedicated time for each one. After observing my mentor teacher during the days that I am in my practicum school before the five block week, I will plan my own lessons. The lessons that I plan will be taught during my five week practicum block. Before they are taught, my mentor teacher will review all of my lessons to ensure that they are achievable within the amount of time that I have dedicated to them. If my mentor teacher does not believe that they are achievable within the time frame that I have set, she will provide feedback to ensure that I am able to alter them to make them shorter or longer.
Relevance: Similarly to my goal for the competency of planning for learning, this goal is relevant as it is crucial as an educator to tailor my lessons to my students. I need to understand whether my students prefer very short lessons or longer ones and how much time is required for them to complete any activities. By knowing the length of time my students require, I believe that it will promote them to achieve the best outcomes possible.
Time Frame: As described in my plan of action, I will begin by observing my mentor teachers lessons up until my five week practicum block. It is during the five week block that I will have created and be teaching my own lessons and be given feedback from my mentor teacher.
Growth: Similar to my goal for planning learning, this had went great! This goal had went so well due to my efficient lesson planning. Below I have linked another one of my lesson plans. Within this lesson plan you will see how I dedicated time to each portion of the lesson as well as how detailed I made my lesson plans. Having a lot of detail made it very easy to stay on track during lessons as well as being able to cover everything without having hour long lessons. I have also linked in my PLP celebration powerpoint. My biggest area of growth was facilitating learning and this powerpoint summarizes where I started and my growth regaridng this competency

My goal for winter semester 2024: My biggest goal for this competency is in regards to the timing of my lessons. I feel that as if every time I teach a lesson, I am often rushing the intro or conclusion which alters the effectiveness of the lesson, especially when the closure is being skipped
How I will accomplish this goal: This is a goal that I believe will come with practice. Each time I create a lesson plan I will ensure I practice it many, many times. This will allow me to see what areas could use more or less time and alter my plans for each section accordingly.
Reflection of Achievement/Progress: This goal went well but could use improvement. I did not find myself running out of time often but this was due to the fact that I had scheduled more time for the lesson to be completed prior to teaching it. I had hoped that I would not need to constantly schedule more time but due to unexpected interruptions and long class discussions as students were engaged and wanting to share their thoughts, I typically had to provide extra time to account for this.
Future Goal: My biggest goal for this competency is in regards to the timing of my lessons. I feel that as if every time I teach a lesson, I am often rushing the intro or conclusion which alters the effectiveness of the lesson, especially when the closure is being skipped
My goal for fall 2023 semester: My goal for this competency is to not only be able to answer questions about activities but rather plan entire activities. I taught my first ever lesson last semester and it went amazing. I believe that if I am the one creating (or helping to create) the lesson, I will have a higher understanding of the concepts behind it ultimately allowing me to better support the students.
How I will accomplish this: This goal may be slightly harder to achieve than my other ones. As I am only starting my second year, lesson planning is still very new to me. I will start off by cooperating with my future mentor teacher on her lesson plans and providing some ideas that I have. Once I feel more confident with lesson planning, I will ask to take charge of more lessons within the classroom. I want to ensure that I am effectively fostering student understanding of the link between the activity I have created and how it is related to their learning outcomes (Alberta TQS 3.a.).
Reflection of Achievement/Progress: This goal went extremely well. Above is a link to my lesson plan that I taught this semester as well as an image of a students work from that lesson and my mentors teachers comments on it. Throughout the semester I had also ensured to discuss the daily plans with my mentor teacher so that I was able to answer questions from students as well as help teach them. Everyday there was an aspect of the lesson that I was able to teach. This was typically done through drawing/writing examples of what was supposed to be achieved on the white board to guide the students.
Growth/Progress: This semester I was exposed to the way in which a classroom functions. A large part of this was learning how I, as the teacher, may support my students with their learning. Throughout the year (mainly winter semester) I began feeling more confident in the classroom and was able to support students more efficiently. Each morning I had a conversation with my mentor teacher about the lesson plans for that day. By doing this I was able to understand the activities myself which allowed me to answer any questions the students may have. There were certain things I was not able to fully support them with such as the subject of religion. This is due to the fact that I did not fully understand the religion curriculum. I did try to support the students as best as I could but I did often have to refer to my mentor teacher with this subject.

Goal: My current goal is to efficiently monitor the students and support them when needed.
I will strive to achieve this goal by following these steps:
Have a conversation with my mentor teacher about each activity happening. That way I can support the students if they have any questions about the lessons/activities.
I will try to ensure I am circulating the classroom. While circulating, I will stop by different students/groups and ask them about the activity they are doing and provide help/answers if needed.
I will continuously monitor my progress and after each week I will consider the following
Does my mentor teacher have any comments or concerns about any support I provided
Was there a large amount of support I wasn't able to give? (ie. answer questions, help with tasks such as crafts)
