This certification was awarded to me after my completion of a Standard First Aid (SFA) course from the Canadian Red Cross. This course taught me many things that I believe will be useful in my life and teaching practice. I find comfort in knowing that I am trained to deal with first aid situations. In a classroom, I believe this will be useful because I will have the knowledge and background to help in any particular health or safety situation such as bleeding or mental health crisis. Below I have provided a button that links to my certification.
This course supported my in building my knowledge and understanding of healthy school communities and comprehensive school health; a topic that I feel passionate about for my practice.
During my Literacy and Language Development course, I was required to complete the Wee Read Volunteer Certification. In doing so, I feel as though I have learned a lot more about reading to children. Below is a picture of the Certificate of Completion that states I am now "volunteer certified". The knowledge gained during the completion of this certification will allow me best instruct and help my future students through the journey of learning to read.
This course supported me in becoming trauma aware and trauma sensitive for my teaching practice.
In 2019, I had the wonderful opportunity to complete my lifesaving training by being awarded the National Lifeguard award. This is an award given to lifeguard candidates when they pass the standards of lifeguarding according to the Canadian Lifesaving Society. Though this may not be particularly helpful in a classroom setting, this was still a great experience for me to expand my knowledge.
In 2019, I wanted to expand my lifesaving knowledge even further while combing my love for teaching. Putting these two aspects together, I decided to embark on taking my lifesaving and swim instructor award. The course offered me 3 different awards all related to teaching, instructing, and assessing all swim levels from parent-and-tots to bronze level courses. I found it to be a great opportunity to turn my knowledge of teaching into something else I enjoy doing; swimming. The course gave me a bunch of practice in facilitating teaching. I feel as though I can bring new perspectives and understanding to my practice after completing this course. Since receiving this award, I have taught a variety of swim lessons for over 1 year!
