Throughout my time learning and studying my Bachelor of Education at Mount Royal University, I have learnt a lot about my passions for teaching. One of my major passions for teaching is the importance of reading. Reading is an essential tool that children should learn and develop from a young age in order to become a successful student. As a teacher, I believe that learning and knowledge starts with knowing how to read. When I finish my degree and begin my practice in an elementary classroom, I want to make reading a priority for my students.
Health and Physical Education is my minor! Throughout my teacher education journey I have learned the importance of health including mental, physical, and overall wellness. I have taken many courses throughout my time at MRU including "Introductory and Intermediate Coaching", "Teaching Games for Understanding", "Movement Education", and "Teaching Physical Education" that have all had significant impact on my ability and confidence in teaching health and/or physical education. When I complete my degree, I look forward to bringing this learning into my classroom and encouraging students to learn through the lens of wellness and movement!
As a teacher and Indigenous woman, I know the importance of Indigenous perspectives being present in a classroom. When I finish my degree and begin my practice, I want to emphasize the many different and importance voices of the past, present, and future. I want to share these perspectives with my future students and educate them of Indigenous history. As well, I want to educate students about the importance of land!
To the right, I have added an acknowledgement of the land and the people from the ATA website. Acknowledging the land and the people is an important part of our lives as Canadians. I cherish the history of Canada and the many different people and perspectives of our land.
