I believe that each student brings a level of knowledge and their own experiences into a classroom. These experiences shape who they are as an individual. As a teacher, I want to celebrate each individual, their differences, and what they have to offer to the classroom. Whether this is cultural backgrounds, differences, and additional education programs. Each student is their own ray of sunshine ready to be shone on all of us to learn and grow. I believe that everything a student has experienced contributes to their behaviour and beliefs. No matter a student's past, I believe that each child has an equal opportunity to learn and excel in their education.
As a teacher, it is my job to facilitate the learning and development of each child in my class and allow them to feel confident in their abilities. I want students to know they are working in a safe and welcoming environment where they will never feel judged and will always accepted.
I believe that literacy is one of the most important aspects of a quality learning environment that is inclusive and engaging. Students should become comfortable with the productive struggle to develop literacy techniques and strategies. Making mistakes in the classroom is crucial in our learning journey, and students and their thoughts will always feel heard and appreciated. I am committed to pushing each of my students to become stronger readers, writers, thinkers, wonderers, and questioners in all parts of their life, including literacy. I know that having an effective ELA program for students requires patience and understanding from a teacher.
I am dedicated to making literacy a positive experience for students and exploring the needs of students through various small and large group activities, discovering students’ passions, and helping students achieve their own goals.
My students will explore the world of literacy through not only reading books, but also role playing, readers theatre, sharing and presenting with one another, and doing novel studies on topics that are relevant and interesting to their lives. My goal is to have students become passionate and interested in the world of literacy. I am dedicated to teaching my students literacy in an interactive way, while also giving them the independence to choose their own topics that they are passionate about to write and read about. I am motivated to including literacy studies across all subjects to make my students the best learners that they can be!
