My art focuses on different aspects of American consumption. American consumerism is reminiscent of the “melting-pot” of culture and values that helped to shape our country, and our way of consuming, as we know it today. Most of my pieces center around American cuisine, nature, and material objects. The AP Art program, run by the fabulous Mrs. Rodriguez, pushed me to experiment with different mediums and concepts outside of my comfort zone. My portfolio includes mediums such as acrylic paint, graphite, oil pastel, watercolor, pen and ink, clay, and fiber art. Mrs. Rodriguez guided my development of a diverse and strong portfolio that ultimately got me accepted into Virginia Tech’s Industrial Design Program, along with a full scholarship provided by the Calhoun Discovery Program.
