What is Workday Strategic Sourcing?

It’s a digital planning and research space that manages the "upstream" source-to-contract process, allowing buyers to search for appropriate vendors, negotiate costs, and track all communications in one secure, transparent platform. Adding this functionality to Workday will significantly enhance our efficiency and improve access for both staff and suppliers by centralizing all contract, vendor, project, and spending data. 

Who will use it?

This tool connects everyone involved in a purchase:

• MHC staff and faculty: Anyone who needs to request a new supplier to be added to Workday for payment of goods or services will use Strategic Sourcing. This is the start of the process and allows the suppliers and stakeholders to see the process. 

• MHC employees involved in bidded procurement activities: Financial Services and business offices will use the system to review requests, check budgets, and lead pricing negotiation conversations that provide visibility and the collaboration between stakeholders and suppliers.

• Suppliers/Vendors: Our business partners will have their own portal to sign up, submit their proposals, and keep their contact info updated.

When is this happening? 

The system will go-live in March, with the following functions available thereafter: 

• March 9: Strategic Sourcing is live in Workday; supplier management (onboarding) and the intake of project requests that will facilitate RFx events (such as Request for Information/RFI and Request for Proposal/RFP).

  • • You’ll be able to access the Strategic Sourcing app in the menu (top left of your home page).

• May 2026 (date TBD): contract management begins

How will I learn to use Strategic Sourcing and get support?

• Through Workday Learning, you can access Workday Strategic Sourcing instructional guides (WIGs) and we’ll post dates for drop in help training sessions.

• Once the system is up and running in March, you’ll also be able to submit a help ticket specific to Strategic Sourcing functionality.

• Ask your peers and help each other navigate together in the Workday How-To Hub!
