After a thorough review, and the solicitation of feedback from both students and faculty, Mount Holyoke College has decided to adopt Canvas as our new learning management system, or LMS. LITS is excited to provide an up-to-date learning ecosystem with a wide range of support tools, including improved analytics, integrated accessibility checks, and a more streamlined user experience for all.
Canvas preparation is underway! While faculty access to Canvas will be granted far in advance of our full migration in Fall 2026, we’re beginning the testing process with a small group of courses in Spring 2026. This limited pilot will allow a small group of faculty to teach a live Spring course fully in Canvas. Please use the Canvas Pilot Application Form to submit your information between now and September 15. We plan to select participants and reach out to them on or around October 1.
There will be a small pilot of courses in Canvas in Spring 2026. All courses will be in Canvas for the Fall 2026 semester.
Most faculty will want to be ready to teach in Canvas in Fall 2026. We recommend you review your Moodle course content this spring and summer and ensure it is up-to-date. Please make sure that the most recent version of each course you teach includes the files, forums, assignments, and quizzes that you will want to use in Canvas in the future!
Students should be sure to continue to save content from their Moodle courses for later use at the conclusion of each semester, as per our current access policy.
There will be multiple events in the coming months, offering everyone a sneak peek of our new Canvas learning environment!
Faculty: The most recent version of each course you’ve taught in the last four years will be migrated to Canvas and made available to you for re-use. Files, Forums, and Quiz activities largely migrate easily. If you are using some of Moodle's more unique features (including Feedback, Lesson, or Book activities, or complex Quiz questions), the Ed Tech team will provide information and support on how best to prepare those tools for this move.
Students: Please download and save any materials you need from Moodle prior to June 30, 2026.
Yes. All of our core integrations currently available in Moodle will be available in the Canvas learning environment.
Please use the Canvas Pilot Application Form to submit your information between now and September 15. We plan to select participants and reach out to them on or around October 1.
Faculty: please apply to teach one course in Canvas this Spring as part of the Canvas Pilot by September 15th. Courses selected to be in the pilot will be announced October 1st.
Yes! Training opportunities for both faculty and students will be available in multiple formats, including live in person and Zoom sessions, as well as asynchronous training and support materials in advance of the move. Ongoing support will be available from both LITS and Canvas.
