Due: December 19th at 12pm
Please submit your work via Moodle.
Work should be submitted in separate files for each of the three parts. All three file names should include your last name and some indication of which part is contained in that particular file.
Prompt: Reflect upon your experience with the MaGE program.
You may wish to consider:
* the impact the training course had on your practicum experience
* the impact that being a GEM has had on your self-efficacy (as a mentor and as a computer scientist)
* a transformational moment with a PEBL
* moments that surprised you
Your reflection will be in 3 parts:
1. An abstract [1 paragraph]
2. The reflection itself, which can take the form of:
* a short essay [1 page]
* a short video [~3 minutes]
* a poster
* other (come talk to us about your suggestion first!)
3. A takeaway message from the MaGE program that you'd be willing to share with others? [1-2 sentences]
Here are a number of questions for you to consider as you work on your reflection pieces. Especially if you are having trouble coming up with things to say in your reflection, try coming up with answers to these questions.
* What were the biggest challenges you faced in your role as a GEM this semester?
* What were the most rewarding experiences you had in your role as a GEM this semester?
* Was there any aspect of your mentoring experience for which you wish you'd been better prepared?
* If you were to do this again, are there any things you would do differently?
* If there were any PEBLs you found particularly challenging or concerning, can you describe the qualities you observed in them that contributed to the challenges or concerns?
* What did you learn about the most common stumbling blocks facing students?
* What was the most helpful piece of advice you were able to give students or the most common form of strategy you offered to students?
