Portfolio Introduction

Willkommen, and thank you for visiting my portfolio page! Here you will find examples of work I have completed during my time in Michigan State University’s Master of Arts in Foreign Language Teaching program.

As a pre-service German teacher, my path through this program has been a unique one. Contributing to classroom discussions almost always from an etic perspective, I reminded myself frequently that teaching is an internship of practice, honed through collaboration, observation, and evaluation. Having trudged through the discomfort and newness of it all to get to the other side, I present you now with the work that has chiseled my approach to language teaching—one that is deeply personal, and came about as much to help me through the program as to help my future students begin and sustain their language learning journey.

I offer here a set of tasks, activities, and reflective essays designed to promote student motivation by focusing on intention and real-world outcomes. Though intended for classroom use by fellow language teachers, these materials and their corresponding justifications may also serve as an elucidating look into the mind of a newly developing teacher, and the suspension of belief required to advance oneself in any field.

Please feel free to use the links above to navigate to my teaching philosophy, credentials, and other projects. I am always eager to discuss my work, and welcome you to reach me any time at the email address listed below.

Tschüss!
