Online Course: Language of the German Fairy Tale

One of the most impactful courses I had as an undergraduate student of German was a topics class in Märchen, or fairy tales. Through my work in this course I fell more in love with the language, and found myself excited to read and to attend lectures while learning and retaining language forms at the same time.

Due to the fact that fairy tales are highly cultural artifacts, commonly utilize language repetition, and are fairly well-known among students of all backgrounds, their use as authentic texts in a language course can be both accessible and engaging. I wanted to explore forming my own German course around fairy tale texts, and at the same time translate it to a fully online and asynchronous format.
