Showcase of
Master of Arts in Education work:
This showcase highlights my work during the Master of Arts in Education (MAED) program at Michigan State University (MSU). The work within my showcase falls within two categories, Community Education and Creativity. The Community Education category contains work that may be used as a community resource or educational information. The Creativity category contains work that was creative in nature and encourages the use of creativity within education.
Community Education:
This site was created as a community resource for educators, parents/guardians, and anyone with an interest in education. Through this artifact, I prove that I am able to create a functioning and effective online resource for the public. I am able to communicate information to a general population audience in a way everyone can understand. The website contains many examples of how I can creatively invent assessments and showcase them digitally.
In this artifact, I demonstrate my ability to create an informative, comprehensive, and visually appealing PowerPoint presentation. This work focuses on educating the community, discussing, and debating the implementation of the Ungrading assessment philosophy. I created this board meeting presentation to teach the community about the benefits of adapting Ungrading. It is an interactive presentation with room for debate and discussion. I also showcase my ability to create a QR Code survey that is available for the audience to contribute valuable feedback.
This essay focuses on women in higher education as a group of students who have been underrepresented in Postsecondary Education in the United States. In this artifact I highlight my ability to categorize, investigate, and reflect on historical events. I synthesize the information from many resources to create a piece of writing that informs the audience of a relevant issue within education. I utilize current events to create points of emphasis about the topic, highlighting why readers should be invested in the information.
I created this essay to demonstrate my ability to analyze literature, communicate in writing, and connect information to a central topic within a culture. The essay focuses on the history of students in Postsecondary Education. It highlights the major social and political forces that have influenced students. I used historical events to analyze the current reality within higher education. I pointed out current social issues and how we can take steps to minimize them utilizing problem-solving skills.
In this artifact, I showcase my ability to synthesize information and communicate it in writing. This essay analyzes many references to examine the strengths and weaknesses of new media literacies. The examination of evidence focuses on providing information to educators and consumers as they make decisions for the future. I also show how I can utilize socially relevant examples for the audience.
Creativity:
This observational work focuses on my creative topic of emotional regulation and observational skills. In this artifact, I am able to showcase my ability to observe an item, write detailed observations, and communicate them effectively. I also demonstrate my ability to make connections from literature to a real-life situation and I problem-solve what the original item would look like if it were re-imagined.
The videos demonstrate my ability to create a meaningful dissonance between the patterns with an audio and visual experience. This creative work contains pattern videos created to point out old patterns and compare them to new patterns. The essay discusses the impact of patterns and how creativity can be utilized in the process. It demonstrates my capacity to express in writing the connections between literature and a creative work.
I created this video to catch the attention of the audience, the community within which I live. The video highlights an action plan created to address a relevant social problem through connected literature. I hoped to introduce opportunities for creativity through tasks that utilize concepts from the book Sparks of Genius. For example, Patterning, Abstractions, Body Thinking, Music, Nature, and Empathy. This work demonstrates my ability to create a visually appealing video, while communicating important information, and showing my skills with digital technology.
