Using the Model Teaching Portfolio (link) – Guidelines and advice page. See sub-pages also.
Explanatory text. Every page on your site should provide an introductory comment for the visitor explaining what that page provides. Don’t just embed a document and leave it at that.
MAFLT Program info. Some students have added a blurb about the MAFLT Program and a link to the program website to the home page of their portfolio. There is now a MAFLT Program page located as a sub-page of Home.
Contact Information. The MAFLT Portfolio Template has been updated to include some options for providing a CONTACT ME button in the footer. The button currently goes to the Contact Me page under Home. This is entirely optional. Remember to update the information!
CV/Resume – Choose one or the other as the page name, or use the page name Experience and include links to both. Don’t just embed the doc – tell your visitor something about your teaching experience. Also, think about what contact information you want to share on your site. You may want to remove those details from the doc. See the updated Model Portfolio.
Proficiency. The Portfolio Guidelines as for your OPI certificate. See the Experience page and the Proficiency page (under Experience) for ways to present it and other options. I recommend including a brief summary of your language learning experience on the Proficiency page.
Document sharing. If you embed a file from Google Drive, make sure that you adjust the sharing settings on that document to match the sharing settings on the site! If you want to explore options for sharing documents online that might offer more functions or greater security, this article is a starting place: https://www.wired.com/story/securely-share-files-online/.
Images and copyrights. If you include any images on your site, make sure that either a) you took them and therefore own them yourself, or b) you pulled them from a source where they are licensed for use in other materials. To be safe, use this search engine to find images: http://ccsearch.creativecommons.org.
Sharing videos. If you are sharing a video on your site, you do not want to try to attach a video file to the site itself. Instead, store the video on Vimeo or YouTube and then embed it in your site. I usually recommend MediaSpace for this, but if you lose your MSU access to MediaSpace after you graduate (and I don’t have a definite answer on whether you will), then you will not be able to do anything else with the video.
Publishing your site. When you are ready for your site to be visible to the world, you will need to adjust your Share settings so that anyone or anyone with the link can see it. After your portfolio has been reviewed, you can make modifications such as removing the Program Reflective Essay or changing the page names or order further.
Access to your site. It is possible that you will lose access to the Google account under your MSU ID. To prevent losing access to your materials, share or copy everything to a personal Google account. To do this with a Google Site, you will need to share your site with your personal account. Click the edit icon to change the status of your personal account to “Is owner.”
