Prior to starting the MAFLT program, I was hesitant to implement technology in my planning and lesson creation. When the COVID lockdowns started, so did emergency remote learning. A year of distance learning followed and my MAFLT class: Teaching Foreign Language with Technology started at the same time. Technology quickly became my closest ally in lesson delivery and throughout the class, I gained the skills and confidence to command a variety of web based tools in new ways. Below you will find examples that represent my strongest technology-based creations.
This website I made on Canvas, showcases a wide variety of activities that I created with the goal of supporting the development of reading, listening, speaking and writing. Featured tools include: Google Docs, Slides, EdPuzzle, Insert Learning and Actively Learn, and all modules can be used for in-person or distance learning settings. Task Based Language Teaching using Google Maps and Roadtrippers. Pack your bags because in this presentation, you will prepare for the real world task of planning a trip to explore the world.
I created this self-contained listening comprehension activity on Google Slides as a quiz or for practice. The short of it: students click on the audio link in the instructions slide and listen while they rearrange the slides in the correct order according to the audio. Not all schools provide access to Google Classroom, which has a discussion feature, however, most teachers are familiar with Docs. This is an interpersonal writing activity that uses Docs in a collaborative way for groups of students to carry on a discussion.
