Having spent some time looking back it is time to look forward to what I want to do in the future and the steps I might need to make those possible. When I was thinking about what my future goals would be I focused on what I could do to help my students and my colleagues. What I have learned during my graduate work has been able to benefit my learning and so I feel like I should share some of that learning with the people around me. One of my goals is to work with my colleagues to help them better know how to use technology in their classrooms in ways that make sense in their classroom. Another goal I have is to more seamlessly incorporate technology into my mathematics curriculum. Finally I want to help my district build their technology training for teachers, in a way that makes sense.

Many of the teachers in my building were not comfortable with making and teaching online content. I want to help them, and other colleagues be more comfortable with that. When we had to transition to distance/remote/online/virtual learning at the beginning of the pandemic we were given lots of information but not a lot of training. What happened as a result of this is that many of the teachers do not feel comfortable and think it is something completely unattainable to them. To help them get on the right track I would want to take it back to basics and give them four steps to teaching in this new way. This article from Edutopia helps outline four steps that would be a good place to start.

I found it difficult to teach the concepts as effectively as I would in the classroom, and the kids had a difficult time understanding it. This led me to the goal of learning how to incorporate technology into my mathematics curriculum more seamlessly and often. Students may have to learn math online again, or maybe they could review concepts online that they previously didn't understand. I want to find a way to do that better in my classroom. Not only that but it generally gives us an abundance of information that we won’t have the chance to implement until we learn more about it on our own. With technology education being so important in today’s educational climate it is important that training for teachers includes this, with presenters who are experts in what they are presenting and know who they are talking to. I want to help the district build their technology education training for their teachers. This would include figuring out how to run an effective session. I want the training to be worthwhile for teachers but also allow time for teachers to just ask questions about things they might already be doing, which is rare in professional development/training opportunities. It is important in education and in life to be thinking about not only where you came from but where you are going. I think it is important to keep learning and trying new things so my goal of incorporating technology into my math curriculum allows me to do that. I also think that colleagues should share knowledge with one another, which plays into my goals of helping teachers learn new technology processes and helping my district with their training for other teachers.
