Learning Contracts
A Learning Contract is a document that outlines actions the child promises to take in order to achieve academic success. The child and his parents will decide on the terms of the contract together and both parents and child will sign on it after.
Components of the Contract
There is no fixed format for the learning contract, as depending on the child's needs, there can be many possible variations of the learning contract. You are free to customize the components of the learning contract with your child based on your child's needs. However to help get you started, here are some components that are typically included in a learning contract.
Length of Contract
The duration of the learning contract.
Learner's Actions
Actions that the child will take to achieve academic success.
E.g.
Abide to schedule created,
Limit Phone Usage,
Spend 2 Hours Per Day Revising and Working on Assignment
Parent's Actions
Actions that the parents will take to support the child's learning.
E.g.
Check on Child's Work,
Be Available to Help
Sign Off
A section for both parties to sign to indicate commitment from both parties to the terms of the learning contract.
