An innovative approach was taken by the Leaders of the LearningSelf-Assessment team (T.Grey/Drama – F.Dodd/Music – G.Witcomb/Physics – S.deRougé/ATL).
In order to fit the Hessen Covid-19 requirements and avoid meetings with a large amount of people, the Learning team decided to use 5 rooms that would each host small groups of teachers.
The process began with all 5 groups starting in a different room. In each room, a poster was visibly positioned with one Practice printed upon it. A list of questions was available to each group and groups had 15 minutes to discuss and take notes.
At the end of the 15-minute round, each group moved to a different room and started the discussion with another Practice. The groups rotated around 4 rooms and, upon entering the final, fifth room, each group summarised the key points of the previous four groups.
The evaluation tables were completed and a clear vision of actions needed was entered in the Learning section of the action plan.
We found this to be a successful, collaborative and safe way to involve all members of staff in powerful reflections that lead to deeper understanding of how to improve our Teaching and Learning at MSF.
Self-Assessment: Culture
26th October 2020
Despite the increasing Covid-19 infections in Hessen, we were able to safely organise a collaborative meeting with some participants on Zoom and some in person. Led by Maths teacher Jason Brazell, Five teams were allocated one policy each to review using IB guidance and the Standards and Practices. The sixth group looked more broadly at how the school develops, communicates and uses its policies in line with Culture 6. In the coming weeks, groups will continue to work together to add action items to the draft action plan. This will guide any short-term policy edits that are needed, and set out how we can further develop our community understanding of the policies.
Programme Development
21st October 2020
The Programme Development team and IB Diploma Coordinator, Katell Dodd, met on Zoom to plan out the Programme Development component of IB Evaluation. We decided to focus on the question: How can the school effectively identify and address the individual needs of students in a way that supports their wellbeing and leads to best-fit college placement? We identified the key challenges faced by the school in recent years, mostly centred around the lack of process and people in place to support student wellbeing, and mapped out a process for documenting how the school has successfully addressed these challenges.
Self-Assessment: Environment
21st September 2020
The launch of the MSF Evaluation 2020-21 with all teachers was held after school in the canteen and was led by teachers Elliot Green and Cordelia Chanault. Teachers divided into groups to discuss and evaluate MSF Practices in the Standard Environment. The videos below show a clip of Elliot introducing the meeting, and Cordelia talking about how she is already learning more about the history of the school through this process.

Team leader training
7th September 2020
In this meeting, we identified team leaders and allocated roles, introduced the different components of the evaluation process, reviewed the timeline, and completed a Scavenger Hunt challenge to become familiar with the documentation and terminology we'll be using regularly over the coming year.
