In 2018, Rossiville got its first class pet ever, satisfying a long-time proposal from citizens throughout history and fulfilling one of Rossiville's many prophecies. Annastasia Higgins of 2016/2017 declared herself as the first "class pet" and got Rossiville a ladybug pen. Little did we know at the time that a ladybug would become the first class pet in Rossiville history.
On October 16, 2018, Andrew Youssef was spending sacred time outside when he saw an odd creature. It was small, furry, black and speckled with orange. It was a ladybug larva!
The class put it in a jar with food and it happily ate for a day or so before stopping on the top leaf. They named HIM, Bug Lady I (the First)! It didn't move after that for six days. Mr. Rossi thought it was dead. Hailey Rosamond suggested replacing it with a living ladybug as a trick (very clever!), but Mr. Rossi didn't have the heart to toss it.
On October 23, 2018, Bug Lady made his debut as a ladybug! During morning writing time, citizens had a chance to welcome Bug Lady and watch his first movements after the glorious makeover.
Sometime in the months following Bug Lady I's arrival, Rossiville acquired two more ladybugs for His company. A dramatic late night break out from the cage would occur in a matter of weeks, leading to the disappearance of all three. Tragedy followed. Bug Lady miraculously was found stuck in a spider web on the corner of Broadway and Rossiville Avenue.
RPD investigators interrogated Bug Ludy I and determined that one of the missing lady bugs was his girlfriend. He escaped to chase after her after she was led out by the other "lady bug" who ended up being Jamie the Spider in disguise! Jamie's costume was recovered, but sadly Bug Lady's girlfriend was found crushed by the tire of Red (The Wagon) and Jamie was nowhere to be found. Evidence can be seen in the Rossiville Tomb.
Citizens voted in 2021 that all Bug Ladies should be released at the end of a term, assuming they live to that point. The vote was nearly unanimous, and the Nation sang a parody of "Let It Go" from Frozen after the vote. Bug Lady XIII was released soon after in the Rossiville Garden.
With each passing (or release) of the Nation's BugLady, Rossiville patiently waits for the next to arrive, so that we can take care of it just like Bug Lady I. Bug Ladies are kept in the Rossiville Tomb after their passing, which is located on the top story of the Rossiville Police Department Headquarters.
4/22/25 - 6/4/2025
BL XXIX was found by Chase R. while lining up for first recess on Earth Day! He lived a great life and looked healthy until his release on Field Day! He literally flew around the moment his song sang, "I believe I can fly; I believe I can touch the sky!"
2/26/25 - 3/21/25
BL XXVIII was... for the lack of a better term... a fluke! It landed on Luca Rossi while in line. It just looked like your "textbook" ladybug. Il Presidente Rossi caved into the peer pressure and allowed a second Bug Lady to live in the Nation at the same time.
He served a great little term until he was released at the end of the 3rd quarter of the year in a beautiful ceremony.
2/25/25 - 3/5/25
BL XXVII was found by Leon C of the 10th generation on his last day at Lone Pine. BL XXVII was released by Leon early in the day near Rossiville. Later, Sequoia L. of the 11th generation found him again. The Nation celebrated the BL known as "Leon II"!
Dear BL XXVII was found by a little rock in the corner of the cage... dead. RIS
11/12/24 - 1/9/25
BL XXVI was saved from Agent Fieldsted's yard rake as a larva! By the time he arrived in Rossiville after the long weekend, he already attached to the glass jar and started changing into a ladybug. He successfully transformed on 11/20/24, with a nice, soft yellow color!
He became the first class pet to travel out of the Rogue Valley. The Rossi family brought him to Camas, Washington during Thanksgiving break. He'd later join our Botanist Abby C's family over Christmas break, becoming the first class pet to have two vacations from the classroom!
Sadly, BL XXVI passed away by suffocating in an old banana chunk. Il Presidente thought he would enjoy the snack like so many other Bug Ladies before him, but this banana seemed to turn to a type of quicksand :(
10/14/24 - 10/18/24
BL XXV came to us during math time when Justin S. found him crawling around the class door protractor... DURING geometry time!
Sadly, BL XXV passed away before being able to metamorphosize into a true ladybug. He drowned in a small pool of water and was moldy by Monday morning!
4/4/24 - 6/5/24
BL XXIV came to us almost immediately after his predecessor during our class PJ/board games party! Three 5th graders (two of whom previously found bug ladies) brought him to us. Most citizens sadly didn't even realize that he arrived.
He fought a rollie pollie, befriended another, and lived to his release date! He is the FIRST BugLady to fly away during the ceremony. We followed him to the amphitheater structure and said our goodbyes.
2/2/24 - 4/4/24
BL XXIII came to Bailey H. at lunch recess and whispered, "I'm SAMUEL #23!" He came back! He lived a happy life, enjoying the amenities and food, until his lovely release on April 4th.
12/12/23 - 1/25/2024
Ol' Murr Lilly S. of 2022-2023 found BL XXII in her house! A week before, a Self-Manager Badge for Robert S. (#22) showed up randomly to Rossiville, before disappearing on 12/12/23! Coincidently, we have BLXXII! We believe that BLXXII is Robert S. returning to us!
He was released in a beautiful ceremony as the sun finally came out on 1/25/2024!
11/6/23 - 11/28/23
Bailey H. and Leon C. both found BLXXI when looking up in line upon returning from lunch. Il Presidente had to swipe him off the ceiling with his vest. (I bet he didn't see that coming)
BLXXI went missing on 11/28/23 after a short walk around the perimeter of his dwelling. He was last seen taking a break and drinking water.
5/11/23 - 6/8/23
Ol' Murr Kaliyah Mercer arrived with Bug Lady XX, fresh from the Sacred Bug Lady flowers. The day before, a flock of Kindergeese dropped off a container of them in our garden.
BLXX happily joined his family in the ladybug plant at the end of the school year.
3/17/23 - 5/9/23
Eli Caster and his sister discovered BLXIX on St. Patrick's Day right after arriving from our field trip to Jacksonville!
BL XIX passed away peacefully the day after Jayden Carlisle mistakingly thought he had died, which makes you wonder... coincidence?!? I THINK NOT!
1/5/23 - 1/20/23
Citizen Charlotte Johnston discovered Bug Lady XVIII right after the afternoon bell! She handed it off to citizen Addilee Pershin, who delivered him to the Nation. When he arrived, he crawled up her sleeve... we all knew she had something up her sleeve!
BLXVIII was a "textbook" lady bug with vivid red, clear spots, and a big size. He was actively saying goodbye to the Nation on his day of release into the garden and quickly disappeared into the leaves of a nearby plant.
9/9/22 - 10/24/22
Bug Lady XVII joined the class on the way out to lunch. He was found by citizen Madi Williams just hours after she earned the honor of being titled the 2022-2023 National Flag maker. XVII was strikingly large for a ladybug, so he wasn't hard to spot!
XVII passed away and left us as the fall weather arrived...
3/31/22 - 6/8/2022
Bug Lady XVI was given to us as a peace offering from 6th grade citizen Landon Castillo after the great Potato War. BL XVI arrived as a larva on a brown leaf. He became a ladybug on 4/8/22 while Mr. Rossi was doing grades.
Bug Lady XVI was instantly shy, and also very plump. He learned to train his body by running laps and became very active. He even took a trip around the room and was found next to the Rossiville Zoo by Scarlet Beard.
He was released at the end of the quarter in the garden by Dr. Pershin and we all sang, "I Believe I Can Fly" by R. Kelly, becoming the official Bug Lady song!
1/10/22 - 2/28/22
It was reported that a ladybug had been camping out in Johnsonshire for days on 1/7/22. A citizen by the name of Kensie was tending to it. She would later deliver it to Rossiville personally on the morning of 1/10/22 and everyone took a knee for her. It was dubbed "Bug Lady XV" immediately and got to share his digs with Bug Lady XIV for several days!
Sadly, Bug Lady XV's fate would be historically sad. While foraging for food, XV came across a moth larva that nestled itself on the roof. These larvae have a sticky, cotton-like substance surrounding them. XV's foot got caught in it and starved to death over the weekend.
Rossiville formally charged the moth larva with bugslaughter and sentenced it to be entombed with XV forever in the Rossiville Tomb.
10/28/21 - 1/14/22
Bug Lady XIV came to Dr. Kaydence Garvin the day that its predecessor was released. XIV was quite shy, but sure liked the leaves.
He escaped (again) on December 14, 2021, only to be recovered again two days later. This time he was found roaming the raisin storage containers by Jackson Naverrete, who was enjoying a nice camping vacation.
In order to ensure his safety over Christmas break, Dr. Kaydence Garvin took Bug Lady XIV home and cared for him successfully, a first in our history.
XIV was released in the garden with a big ceremony on 1/14/22.
9/24/21 - 10/28/21
Bug Lady XIII was the first larva Bug Lady to be welcomed since Bug Lady I and was found by Il Presidente near the entrance of Perkins Island! It was a Friday!
When he tried to pick him up, he immediately fell into Jamie the Spider's next and began getting wrapped up by her web! Il Presidente saved him and brought him in. He was the first to live in the Lady Bug Land Exhibit (which was later assigned to only house future larvae because it had no ventilation, which molded the gummy worm).
XIII fully transformed on October 6, 2021 and was transported to the cage in which Bug Lady I passed away. He was given a complimentary banana piece and raisin.
On 10/12/21, it was discovered that Bug Lady XIII was missing! At 1:30pm, Sydney Ruth spotted him fly by and land in the window. Mr. Rossi jumped up on the North Gobel Tower I and rescued Bug Lady XIII with the help of Sydeny and Dr. Douglas.
He was released after serving his full term, joining his family in the Rossiville garden.
8/30/21 - 9/1/21
Bug Lady XII came to Il Presidente while he was weeding his backyard with 'ol retired Red the Wagon. XII immediately went into hiding in the TNP Pine Cone.
While there, he booked a once-in-a-lifetime safari vacation to TNP, where he informed their Park Ranger that he'd never return. He was set free... by his own free will!
4/1/21 - ~5/14/21
Bug Lady XI was meant to be. While at first recess, Tenlee Gobel, Avery Gail, and Meela Lopez of Cohort A encountered a majestic yellow lady bug. XI is the second yellow-colored Bug Lady in our history. He immediately found the old banana and started eating.
XI was always on the move and looking for a way out. He was reported missing by Dr. Grant on May 18, 2021, and likely disappeared (or died) sometime around May 14, 2021 based on our thorough investigation.
After the last day of school, a mysterious yellow ladybug appeared on our window under the newly erected Google sign. Was this XI?!?!
4/1/21 - 6/8/21
Bug Lady X was brought to us by Tinsley Gugliotta promptly after the news of its predecessor. It was the chosen one of many that she caught, and came with an abundance of vegetation. It is believed that he is the one who "took care of" the moth that tried to take Il Presidente's life that same morning after Dr. Vincent Daffron brought it to the cage for questioning.
Bug Lady X was the second to be released into the wild in an exciting ceremony the day before the last day of school. He instantly started eating bugs from our class garden that were attacking our broccoli.
3/30/21 - 3/30/21
Bug Lady IX is nothing less than a tragedy. During a fire drill, Savannah Williard came upon him, picked him up, and brought him to our Nation. Il Presidente blasted the ceremonial music to welcome him, but Savannah shared the difficult news that he was crushed by an unknown pedestrian. He passed away immediately after arriving in Rossiville. A salute was promptly made. Out of all days, the Nation was littered with spiders (not real ones). Jamie the Spider? Coincidence? I think not!
2/25/20 - ~ 3/25/20
Bug Lady VIII was found crawling on Mayor Sabrah's hair while she was reading outside. It was welcomed with a huge helping of raisins and water. He was VERY shy, and probably scared of the giant tomb in the cage. Sadly, Bug Lady VIII passed away during the Coronavirus Shutdown sometime between 3/13/20 and 3/25/20 according to officials at La Clinica Rossiville. He was the only known casualty from COVID-19 in Rossi Nation.
10/29/19 - 11/14/19
Hours after the loss of Bug Lady V, Lucia Whalen and Emma Almaras helped Il Presidente dig up the carrots that Rossiville planted the previous Spring. Upon pulling the second carrot - which was yellow - Emma found a yellow ladybug on it! Bug Lady VII was presented to the Nation with much praise and celebration. Sadly, Bug Lady VII went missing in the days leading up to November 14, 2019, when the search was officially called off, and the Nation paid its final respects.
9/28/19 - 10/8/19
Bug Lady VI was captured by Bryson West while citizens were harvesting the crops in "Oregon City" moments after Bug Lady V. Bug Lady V died peacefully and was given an honorary moment of silence during morning announcements.
9/28/19 - 10/29/19
Bug Lady V was captured by Mia Fraley while citizens were harvesting the crops in "Oregon City" moments before Bug Lady VI. He suffered the loss of two legs and went missing for days. Upon his loss, the Nation went into a state of mourning for a little less than two hours.
? - ~1/7/2019
The exact day of Bug Lady IV's arrival is unknown, but he was brought in along with Bug Lady II and III. He escaped Rossiville without a trace, along with his accomplice, Bug Lady III. The truth about the disappearance was never determined.
? - ~1/7/2019
The exact day of Bug Lady III's arrival is unknown, but he was brought in along with Bug Lady II and IV. He escaped Rossiville without a trace, along with his accomplice, Bug Lady IV. The truth about the disappearance was never determined.
? - 3/11/2019
The exact day of Bug Lady II's arrival is unknown, but he was brought in along with Bug Lady III and IV. Unlike the others, he did NOT escape without a trace. His dedication to Rossiville was unwavering, therefore, on the afternoon of Monday, March 11, 2019, Rossiville released Bug Lady II in a bush outside the portables in an emotional ceremony.
10/16/2018 - 12/19/2018
Bug Lady I died on December 19, 2018 from a lack of nourishing food and remained on display on top of the honey cotton ball over Christmas break (just in case he was in hibernation). Upon returning from break, Bug Lady was moldy and laminated for all to see forever in the Bug Lady I Memorial Tomb located in the Rossiville Museum.
