In MSAD 52, elementary-aged students have primarily received instruction about technology in a weekly specials class. As a result of the pandemic, along with students receiving 1:1 devices to assist with remote and distance learning, students have had more opportunities to learn how to use technology along with their regular instruction. As we move forward, MSAD 52 is looking to transition to a technology integration model, where instruction in technology occurs in the regular classroom as technology is used to learn and apply concepts in the broader curriculum. In this model, Technology Integrators, who serve as a resource and support for students and teachers, assist teachers in planning and delivering technology-infused lessons that provide new and engaging learning experiences for students.
This school year will serve as an exploratory and transition year to a technology integration model. That means that I will resume teaching technology as a specials class, but will also be available to assist in classrooms with lessons and technology support. In order to have enough time to serve both roles, however, technology will only be a half-year special for elementary students, and I will only be teaching a half courseload during that time. That means that half of my classes will have technology in the first half of the year, and the other half will have technology in the second half of the year.
