Jenna is a dedicated educator, performer, director and a founding teacher at MS 839. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and a proud product of the public education system, Jenna is a passionate advocate for arts in education. She has worked as a teaching artist in city schools for many years, specializing in devised theatre performance, dance, and music.
Experienced in working with a variety of age groups (from early elementary through high school), Jenna is a firm believer in the power of ensemble building to promote positive interaction, collaboration, and accountability among peer groups. Trained largely in Viola Spolin's method for devised and improvised theatre, Jenna focuses on working with students to explore their strengths through the creative process and self generated story content. Most classes involve a writing, design, and performance component, encouraging students to author their own original work together.
Having recently graduated with a Masters in Theatre Education K-12 at Hunter College, Jenna is a member of the first theatre cohort of the Lincoln Center Scholar's Program. She is an enthusiastic yogi, bicycle rider, and lover of roller coasters. Jenna’s secret talent is playing the ukulele.
