Students will learn techniques in drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Along the way they will evaluate the work of many contemporary and historical artists as they learn to speak about art and develop their own personal taste in art.
7th grade artists will focus on drawing and painting. They will work on a series of exercises, learning to manipulate line, shape, color, space, and pattern. This series will culminate in an artwork that introduces symbolism as they successfully give form to an intangible idea related to their current expedition. Students will continue to learn painting techniques and be introduced to sculpture and printmaking.
This advanced course pushes students to learn new techniques and build on previous knowledge in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics. They write about your art to explain what it means to you and learn to constructively critique the art of fellow artists. Projects include:
Sculpture: design a 2D character and then build a 3D model of it in clay; create a site specific monument.
Painting with shades, tints, and tones
Drawing with value and texture in a variety of media
Building and glazing pottery.
Multi-color printmaking
